I went to see a surgeon this morning about my shoulder. The x-rays are inconclusive and he gave me a cortisone shot due to constant pain. He said if the shot doesn’t help in a few days to call and he will schedule an mri since he believes there could be a tear. I had been putting off seeing him for this but my other shoulder was wrecked and never returned to be even close to normal after multiple procedures. My left shoulder has been doing double duty for a long time and was getting progressively worse and I sleep minutes at a time and have intense pain off and on (mostly on) regardless of position. Running the household has not helped and resting to heal is out of the question. If I ended up having surgery the downtime is months and my other arm is already pretty much the weakest link at this point.
My wife said she and our son could take care of things while I recovered but she is disabled and our son is not going to have this dumped in his lap. He is an honor student and heading to trade school next year. I am hoping the shot makes a difference in the coming days as I dread the thought of going under the knife again. Anyway, sleep is calling and if I can get an hour or so at a time that would be amazing.
Listen to what your body is saying, it doesn’t lie. We were all bulletproof when young but will eventually wear out and all those decades in the trades have come back to bite me. Take care and enjoy good health while you can.

Shoulders always seem to heal slow, and painfully. Hope you heal soon

These shots are often very helpful. The problem is that you can’t go on getting them… cortisone will slowly degrade tissue. But, still, they help here and now, typically take care of any “chronic” inflammation and let you start up again on some (physiotherapy-type) resistance exercises to strengthen the muscles and ligaments in your shoulder.
I hope you get this sorted out without surgery! All the best!

I share your pain. Have have it in my right shoulder for last 5 months. Got an x-ray next week. Fortunately it doesn’t currently affect playing, just everything else.

I’m so sorry to hear that! Take care, give it time, rest as much as possible. Hopefully it will heal soon!
I had a cortisone shot once many years ago on my knee, and once on my hip. They helped. I had to take it easy. It was annoying how much the pain limited me, and I could not sleep on the hip side that was hurting.
There might be some medication to ease the pain when you sleep, but be mindful of what they might prescribe. Some medication can be addictive, and some can cause tinnitus or other problems. Research well before deciding on anything.
I wish you a speedy recovery!

Very little sleep until this morning. I can already feel some relief and hope it continues to improve. Definitely feeling optimistic at the moment. Thank you for the replies, it is appreciated.
