Stopped by the guitar shop today and played this thing. I loved it. I was eating up with Stiletto Studio 4 a few months back, went to the shop to play one and didn’t like anything about it. Good. Temptation over.
Played this for about an hour today ( through the same amp I use at home) and loved it. I can’t find anything about it online. Discontinued model? New model?
Shop owner said he wasn’t expecting them to show up and thinks it’s a new model, but there’s nothing about them in Schecter’s website.
Asking $450. Passive, which I prefer. Didn’t think the square/flat body would be comfortable playing seated, but I had no issues. Called back and he said he’d take it off display for a couple days while I decide. Im very tempted.
As a data point, it looks like the current C-4 Deluxe model retails for $550 new.
That also appears likely to be a two-band active EQ, so while the pickups are no doubt passive (which almost all are, active pickups are actually uncommon), it does have an active component and no apparent active/passive switch to disable it.
I happen to dislike two-band EQs so this would not be my choice, but YMMV
But really, the only important thing here is - you played it and really liked it. That’s all that matters in the end.
I wish I’d thought to look at the serial number but it didn’t cross my mind. If it’s an old discontinued model you’d think there’d be something online to find, but I’ve had no luck. It’s strange.
I did. Not sure how to best describe it, but if you look at the knobs as a dotted line pointing towards each pickup, the furthest away knob adjusted tone and the closest to each pickup adjusted volume.
It’s totally possible it’s active, but I really don’t think it is. Of course, my opinion and a dollar is worth about 99 cents combined
I agree about the Frankenstein. The body on the one in the shop has no contouring around the edges. It’s just straight 90 degrees like an acoustic. The face has a very slight convex, but it’s basically flat as well. It really shouldn’t be as comfortable as it is.
I see other necks and headstocks in Schecter’s catalog that matches this one, but I don’t see another body similar to it. Im baffled
I was intrigued enough to dig into it. The emg pickups they stuck in there have a pull knob single coil mode, and EMG wants them wired that way. I think I’d rather have one toggle for both pickups and a blend knob, but I’m not sure what it messes up in that circuit.
Well, I gave in to the temptation. Im suddenly a roasted maple snob after learning that exists less than an hour ago This neck is beautiful.
It’s passive ( shop owner checked another bass while I was looking at this one). Maple neck, rosewood fretboard. I didn’t ask what wood the body is. Shop owner said Schecter told him to expect some new models in November. A shipment of nine of these guitars showed up ( various different bass and electric guitar models) a few weeks ago with no information from Schecter. No specs, no pricing sheet…but he has his money tied up in them so he sat them out on the floor. I guess more information will become available in the coming weeks/months, but whatever the case is I really like this thing . The body is small and for someone who plays seated with a hand draped over the body, it’s so comfortable.
The neck is so much slimmer than my TRBX174, in width and depth. It’s noticably lighter and the body is a little smaller, but it’s not drastic. It doesn’t feel like a toy.
To get a good low end or high end tone out of the Yamaha I had to roll the tone knob pretty far one way or the other. The lowest of notes never had great definition and would just blur together into a drone. This thing has nice crisp sounding high notes and still gives deep growly snarl on a E string side. Clarity on low notes is much clearer than the Yamaha. Moving from song to song without having to fiddle with knobs is a joy. Just sit down and play. The bass makes all the right sound, I just gotta do my job.
I’m admittedly a noob and not qualified to review anything, but I’m thrilled with it.
And gave me this link. I guess I wasn’t enough to find it in my own. On the product page the color I got is listed as charcoal and it looks pretty much just straight back. I would call more of a denim color. I don’t know what’s up with that.
