"Share some good music" Friday

I dig this comment to one of his YT videos: “This is so deep in the pocket, it is practically lint” :joy:

Wow, that was… emotional! That’s a strong way to… say goodbye…

Yeah guys, no real bass to speak of but heaps of emotion. ( But if you would like to play along just for a nice mellow tune the verse =A C D and the chorus is G A F C for the first 2 then G A F for the last 2) … (The original NiN version is a little higher but I’m sure you bad ass bass ppl already know that and 5 string players can really take advantage of the low notes) sorry for teaching how to suck eggs.

Now because I’m hardly ever here to do a “Good Music Friday” I’m going to take advantage a little… here’s another. From an Aussie band called Skunkhour quite a few years ago but I think it still works. It’s a nice little funk groove without being the usual super-unplayable-look-at-me-I-am-a-bass-god type thing.Booty Full - YouTube

I just love this tune… and it is 50 years old/young this year!!

It’s so deceptively simple, but because the “1” isn’t where I would like it to be, it throws me off every time  “Luckily”, I have seen pros botch this up as well (botch up = didn’t get it to groove at all). The fact that the main theme is grouped in threes doesn’t make it any easier…

Here is a Covid-19 version by McLaughlin’s current quartet (the original of course with Billy Cobham, Jan Hammer, Rick Laird and Jerry Goodmann, I think; and on the original LP with an un-characteristic mistake by McLaughlin on those accents that come first one, then two, then three)

That bass tone is awesome.

@joergkutter I know what you mean. I was learning a song the other day and the progression started with a II-V-I-IV but then a time change to some very odd time meter and the 1 ended up in a weird spot it was tricking my brain for sure

I can’t stop watching this on a loop when I am on my laptop. Also found Toast Machine on Spotify so I have been listening there too. Seriously just some amazing stuff @Gio.

My son is learning the drums right now at 8 and we watch this together a lot.

Nothing like some Mongolian throat singing to end the week. If you ever get a chance to see the Hu I recommend it. They are impressive in person.

Temka on the 4 string guitar like instrument (a tovshuur) really does some work laying down the rhythms.

Really digging this song right now. It’s got a minimalist bass part, but the piano is lovely and there’s some pretty fun guitar work in the second half. Rock music needs more piano…

They are an awesome band @Wombat-metal

As a metal child of the 80’s, I’m going to throw this one in here. It’s a cover of Black Sabbath’s Neon Knights during Ronnie James Dio’s short stint as singer. Tough gig covering this as it was played to death in my house. But Anthrax and Joey do a great job on this one.
It’s from a Ronnie James Dio tribute album called Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life
It was played very loud on my drive home this afternoon.

Wow. Where did you see them live? I had no idea they were touring broadly.

Tough time to be trying to tour!

They opened for Babymetal here in the states so I caught some shows, but they were touring the country and Europe on their own anyway. I highly recommend them.

I have been a fan of Tengger Cavalry, another Mongolian band, 5 or 6 years, and Tengger produced the Hu’s album, so I am long a fan of the Hu; I was almost more excited to see the Hu than Babymetal when I heard they were the opening act.

Its pretty good. Not great but you will dig it if your a Star Wars fan. And yes, its not a bass but worthy of a view.

Deadmau5 is interesting for sure. An example of a person (if I remember correctly) With no formal understanding of theory, but just an innate feel for it.
