I was just listening to some Discharge first thing this morning with my first cup of coffee. One of my favorite crust punk bands actually. The album you linked being my favorite album by them.
These girls are awesome. Thats some good ole fashion punk rock, remind me a bit of Regan Youth, and D.I. and the like.
Man, I almost got to see them a few years back at the Punk Rock Pic Nik, but the event was a flop, and they never showed up the day of the show because the promoter didnāt give them any money. I think they found a local gig and played for some money before going home, or up to San Fran then over tot he east coast. Course, I never heard of the other show, so missed them.
I. LOVE Discharge, but my two favorite bands from that time and style are
Chaos U.K.
And
One Way System
This is. a newer band, but they are bas ass.
It is one of the guys we grew up with that played guitar in Dystopia, with the drummer of another punk band, and bass player of another (I donāt recall which bands they are from, but they called this a punk rock supergroup from the bay area cuz its a collaboration) with a guy that was roadie for Sub-Humans for like 30 years, that said he would never be in a band, just wanted to travel with them and watch punk rock shows, on vocals. He is called Pete the Roadie, appropriately.
Whole album is great, it sounds like they would be from England, but only the singer is, but the they nailed the style.
Fat Mikeās Fat Wrek Chords just dropped a single for this band CLOWNS.
I watched a show from 2018 posted here, they are bad ass.
@Mac or Brian, you know about these guys? And Galās, female bassist.
They are from Melbourne, they look killer live.
Never heard of them but Iām certainly out of the latest scene especially since COVID.
My neighbour may know more @T_dub
Both of the bands you listed are new to me so thanks for helping me discover them. Love their style, definitely up alley.
I like the rockabilly flavor on āKicker - Brokeā as well.
Of course
Now, I have been fortunate enough to see Chaos U.K. in a dive bar in Long Beach, CA back around 99 or Y2K. Fucking Brilliant!!!
I have not been fortunate enough to see One Way System, but I just noticed on YouTube a live performance from 2019, so, if they come over to the states, I am all over that.
For Chaos U.K. check out
- āOne Hundred Percent, 2 Fingers In The Air, Punk Rockā
AND
āThe Morning After, The Night Beforeā
The song āSan Clementeā on Morning after / Night before, was about one of their CA tours, they squatted with a crew of gutter punks we knew down in San Clemente for a few nights. GOOD TIMES
For One Way System start with
āAll Systems Goā
And Just for Shits and Giggles, Here is a great song played live
āJerusalemā
Oh yeah, and a cover of Quiet Riot. LOL
FWIU, 2 fingers in the air, like a peace sign, but with the back of your hand facing away from your body, in England, is the same thing as the middle finger.
Now I have to thank you.
Because I was looking them up to link to here, I found out they have a new album released in 2019 that I did not know about.
āCar Bombs in Babylonā. I am gonna check it out.
Based on them having a new album, I can see them touring in some US states, and So Cal Los Angeles or Orange County would mod likely be a stop. I am there for sure.
@Mac, I had never heard of them, but a single just dropped on the
Fat Wrek Chords YouTube Channel. I was not really into the song, but one of the first comments on the page said, āI know its not the usual, high energy song, they are known for, but I like this song alotā
So
I decided to look for their high energy songs. I found another song, and again it was kind of slow and I was not too into it, but I gave it another chance and found a song that got me going. Then I saw this live performance, and, yeah, I like them, they are good.
Hopefully they will tour the States with āAmyl and the Sniffersā . Oh, that would be a sick show. Maybe too much to ask for, but would be good.
That also sucks you couldnāt see Discharge, they seem like they would put on a great show. But at least you got to see Chaos UK. I like how that first album starts with techno then cuts straight to crust punk, brilliant! Had me going āwait, what?ā LOL
I bet you actually got to see a ton of great shows being out in Cali. Iām definitely going to check out the reset of the records you linked. Thanks again, these bands are awesome!
Man these last few posts have some awesome breadcrumbs in them. Thanks to both of you.
Oh, you have no idea how many times I fuck with people in the car with that album.
I get it on, they look at me weird, like, really, you listen to this. And they are just about to start grooving with it, and SCRATCH, Happy Spastic starts.
And
The really brilliant part about that is, the song is about RAVEs, and people on Ecstasy, not having hate for the government anymore, and just giving up.
lmfao! Thatās hilarious. Iām going to start doing that to people too now.
It messed with my head even more because I had to wipe my blinkers to make sure I was looking at the right album cover that promised me punk but gave me techno? I almost frowned.
Okay history time.
The two finger salute is rumoured to have started around the time of Agincourt when English archers would proudly give the French the two fingered salute to illustrate they still had their two plucking fingers as the practice by the French back then on capturing English archers was to cut off said fingers so preventing the captured archers from returning to the battlefield
ROTFLMAO!!!
Yeah, that would have been a burn.
One of my connections with them is the love for hard cider!! Of course, I donāt drink that anymore, but I used to love me some cider.
I worked for a Race Team before. We had C.A.R.T (indy cars when they broke from the Indy circuit for a while) and KOOL (minor league C.A.R.T) and Ivan Stuartās off road truck, and NASCAR. This was back in 1999 thru 2001. Unfortunately, they lost C.A.R.T sponsorship from MCI Worldcom and switched to Telifonica for a year, but then lost Telefonica and Pioneer, And Ivan Stuart retired. They switched focus to strictly NASCAR, with McDonalds and Tide cars, but that led them to move from Southern California to North Carolina, so that was the end of that job. Was probably the funnest job I ever had, and I donāt even like auto racing much.
So
there were two guys that worked on the Model cars for wind tunnel testing.
I used to make alot of the parts for the model, and they had one mechanical engineer and the model builder, both from England. They would fly back to the UK, with the model car in a big locking case, lots of foam inside, and the assembled car, along with alot of test parts. Like air foils, steering arms, spoilers, etcā¦
See, it was cheaper to send two guys to the UK for a week at a time for wind tunnel testing then it was to stay in Southern California and use the Wind Tunnels here. $10,000 per day in California vs. $4000 a day across the pond. One time they went, I asked them to bring me back some cider, and they did. It was in a 3 liter plastic bottle, like a soda bottle, but 3 liters. I had never saw one before. They shipped it back in the model car case. It was the coolest thing I ever drank, just cuz of the story behind it.
Oh, yeah, thanks Mac
I think I vaguely remember hearing something about that in the past.
So, when they show the fingers, it is kind of a āFuck Off, I got my fingers you bastardsā ? Is that correct.
Thatās exactly it in a nutshell ![]()
Featuring Tawny Kitaen once married to Whitesnakes David Coverdale and star of a few 80s Whitesnake videos who recently passed away.
She apparently never recovered from her Dad dying last year. Very sad
Damn thatās intense. āStill got it motherfucker, see!ā
I did notice a cider ritual in between almost every track when listening to that album last night. Cider is great though, Iāve not met anyone that hasnāt liked it after trying it. You basically just drink carbonated apple juice and get a bonus at the end.
Thatās awesome! I would have been like
āwhoa man, never see-seen 3 liters before sirā Brit: āOi mateā LOL
@T_dub That first Chaos UK album was kickass, I liked the second one less. But THIS is awesome! Had to search extra hard to find the full album of this.
