Oh yeah, One Way System is killer.
Yeah, Track 4 and 10 are two of my favorite songs.
Iām enjoying this entire album tbh. Itās a great band, thanks again. Nothing beats the 80s and 90s for punk. I miss the days of skate & punk going together like peanut butter & jelly sammiches.
Dear god this cider house mix at the end drove me crazy though, I would have cut that one off the record but I guess if they open up with something like that on one album they have to even the scale by ending a record with some shit house music at the end too.
That last one reeks of āsinging drunk off cider through a carnival payphone while leaning against a wall to simultaneously take a piss while making a collect call to your friend in jail while your other friend on the line records the entire conversation and they close a whole album off with itā because it was cheaper than driving vibes.
I can never forget what the 70s paved the way for. I still rinse the greats constantly, I just mean I like how punk became more aggressive in the 80s. I never let go of all the punk classics though.
I grew up in the 70s and may be a bit biased. Stooges, Patti Smith, New York Dolls, Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Clash⦠we had some good bands.
Definitely I love 70s punk including all the bands you listed but also Adolescence, The addicts, Agent Orange, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Cockney Rejects, Crass, Descendents, Discharge, DOA, The Exploited, Fear, Misfits, Riff Reagan, Sham 69, Social Distorition, The Stooges, Subhumans & The Vandals which all came from the 70s.
Shonen Knife, aka Osaka Ramones
One of my favorite groups to come out of 70s punk. This song tells the story of how Noako heard the Ramones on the radio and changed her life. She start her own punk band. Years later the Ramones asked SK to open on their final Japan tour.
Besides being an influence on Nirvana and Sonic Youth, Shonen Knife kickstarted kawaii rock which is going strong today
Thatās very cool, they really sound a lot like The Ramones.
Admittedly I donāt know much about Japanese punk and Iāve only heard about Kawaii rock in passing so I donāt know much about it but thatās really cool that they influenced Nirvana & Sonic Youth. I never knew that but I did know Kurt was inspired by a lot of punk.
Kurt Cobain came to Oz to see my mates band perform in the early 80s and they were most certainly punk lol
Wow I really dig their style, saved that one to my punk list. I love how they sound a bit vintage & a bit aggressive like most 80s punk but still keep a bit of 70s flavor in there with how catchy it is. Love it.
Oh yeah punk is here
A lot of it is sort of on the boundary between hardcore and metal. Envy there is freaking amazing, pretty nuanced, going between hardcore, post-hardcore, and post-metal. Theyāre on Pelagic now, play Hellfest, etc. Interesting crossover.
Thereās some more traditional hardcore as well but so far I havenāt explored it much - like I havenāt really found the original/old school ones yet, like who would be the TSOL, DI, Adolescents, etc of Japan.
I worked with the lead singer @Bersist
Heās a great guy with a wicked sense of humour and is also a talented artist. Heās currently finishing his book on the history of swords which he has written and illustrated.
Mind you his everyday persona and stage persona are poles apart
Oh and he does the art for the album covers too
Thatās incredible! Such a huge fan of crusty, Hardcore vocals like this. Thanks for showing me a new band. I saved a bunch of their albums to my list to listen to later.
Thatās awesome, I really like these types of vocals + art too! I think that having dual attitude apart from your everyday one is possibly true for a lot of people. For some itās an outlet that lets us get back to our everyday self for others itās a magnifying glass to their true self.
I canāt imagine a life without art or music though.
Glad you like it! Their latest album is awesome. They also do a lot of varied, melodic stuff.
Really awesome band.
Man these guys are incredible! Iām going to be listening to them a ton from now on. Theyāre very talented.
Thank @Krescht, he clued me in to them
