"Share some good music" Friday

I still play Virus occasionally. I remember its release, and the first time I heard it in a club. Sasha’s still touring, too. Electroindustrial is actually in my top three genres with post-punk and darkwave/goth/etc; I was pretty deep into it.

I was a huge Kate Bush fan back in the 70s and 80s. Probably could have guessed that

Not now? She’s brilliant

She is brilliant, but she took a hiatus and I lost track

Kate is still cranking it out, as slowly as ever.
I recently got a dvd copy of The Line The Cross & The Curve, her 1 movie she made.
It actually showed in Rochester, NY when I lived there, one of 6 cities in the US to show it.
I hated her when i first heard her until i started to understand the depth of her music.
The layers upon layers.
Hounds of Love is one my absolute favorite albums and stands as a complete work.

She stood up a small residency in England which sold out instantly a few years ago and I still regret not buying an extremely overpriced resell ticket and flying over.

KMFDM, that stands as the single loudest concert I have ever heard.

Okay she’s way, way edgier than Grimes

One of my favorite 90s pop groups

This is going to be a bit of a genre stretch for a lot of the people here, but if you were in to what we used to call underground club music back in the '80s, then this playlist is very likely the best cover album you will ever see:

(click through to YouTube for the full playlist)

Basically if you know what Razormaid was, you will dig this. A lot.

I’m blown away, it’s an authentic, amazing cross-section of '80s underground dance, electronic, electro-darkwave, new wave, synthwave, light electroindustrial, and general club music. With some of the artists from the time covering each other, including Front 242, Moev, Microchip League, parts of InfoSoc, Anything Box, CCCP, and others. Just incredible.

It’s like a soundtrack of covers from my club kid youth. I owned several mixes of the originals of almost every song on this list. Whoever put this together really knew their stuff.

If you’re in to Dark Synthwave now you will like this as well.

Looks like there’s a second volume with 43 more songs covered

I wear my scary mask when I’m afraid I don’t belong.

It’s funny how stuff looks prescient in retrospect.

Newbie here but hoping to get to a point where I could play this. Cheers all!
Allmans - Can’t Lose What You Never Had

@crippledring, this Joe Dart transition from a solo to One Of These Nights is so cool…

Clearly improvising - but is 100% on the beat to the microsecond. This is the definition of “in the pocket”!

Maybe an unpopular opinion on Poppy but:
Physical attractiveness stereotype - Wikipedia

She’s gorgeous. That 99% of the appeal. We all know it. She’s just nice to look at. Imagine this same music/schtick/“character” from the image below and all the appeal of her “theatricality” is gone.

I don’t mean to rant - but this is TikTok culture - people fooling themselves that there is something compelling about the content when it’s actually just attractiveness bias at warp speed.

Isn’t it? I’m still geeking out. A lot of the covers are better than the originals, even.

Attractiveness has been a thing since MTV. You can even make a case for the Beatles and their cute hairstyles in 64.

There’s a lot of cute women in the business. It gets you looked at once. To keep people coming back you have to deliver the goods, and Poppy does.

And I’m not a particularly big fan of Poppy, but I am of Suzuka Nakamoto, who people dismissed for being cute and a gimmick.

For myself I don’t care what gender a musician is. It’s all about the music.
