Santigold is very cool when they rock - but the more ā€œcommercialā€ stuff is not for me!
It’s the same with ā€œThe Warningā€ (a little far fetched, but ok). They can really rock, and then they can be a marketing-driven girlie band too…

Santigold is definitely pop now but she did not start that way and IMO I suspend judgement.

I mean, this is S-Tier weird:

ā€œno one even knows I’m hereā€

Much respect. She is doing something subversive here.

Nope. That has this typical american done-to-death production style that makes me confuse Lady Gaga with Taylor Swift and that Wrecking Ball girl (and I don’t wanna listen to none of them!).

It’s all the same to me, sorry to say!

I think you’re missing some very specific cultural tropes here. There are some fundamental pieces of Americana called out and made fun of there in an obvious way, but there is also an additional underlayer that might not make sense unless you are an exceptionally cynical American like me.

Maybe, but being a proud old European, I might not have the subtility for that.
I’m very much in favour of playing with ClichĆ©s, in fact I love it.
But - being a child of the underground - this has it’s limits ^^

Oh yeah. It’s pop, just pop with a subversive undercurrent.

Speaking of which, here’s some Poppy I have in heavy rotation.

Hmmmm … I’m more into something completely different when it comes to ā€œgirlsā€ music:

Note: parental guidance is advised!

Saw Peaches a few years ago in Hamburg/Germany. Usually I’m a cold blooded guy, when it comes to controversial stuff, but their show really made me aware of my limits!

haha well yes Peaches is a completely different vibe.

Happy Friday everyone,stay frosty.

I’m seeing her in a couple weeks. Pretty excited about that. She’s opening for A7X, which I am extremely excited about.

Been watching this video over and over of late. Yes performing Roundabout with Geddy Lee standing in for the late Chris Squire. It’s a hell of a performance. Bonus points for my original keyboard hero Rock Wakeman.

By the by, if you’ve never listened to Rick’s ā€œJourney to the Center of the Earthā€, you’re missing out.

I love Yes, seen them live in Melbourne a couple of times, also seen Rick Wakeman on his own playing Journey to the centre of the earth.
Cheers Brian

The cosmic slop video is genius.

yeah totally

The Beths. Love this band out of New Zealand! For your listening pleasure are two options, the music video for ā€œKnees Deepā€ and a live performance of ā€œFuture Me Hates Meā€.
