I really like Metric. They have some acoustic versions of songs that are glorious - that was my inroad for them. Their full production stuff (I only know older material) is great as well.
Some post-rock from Japan:
TBH I am not so much in to MONO but this is good.
our Sunday mornings will never be the same again
nice one @howard !
New California hardcore
Ha! Those Loma Prieta guys are from my neck of the woods! Glad you dig them.
Yeah! I lived there at the time they formed myself
Well, close anyway, not in the city at that time. I never ended up seeing them.
Seems we are having “Dutch week” elsewhere in this forum, so I’ll add The Nits with their “Holiday on Ice” from way back when… I always thought this was such a cool song, with the occasional Moog bass the “icing” on the cake:
Happy lockdown Friday!!
really solid bass in this one.
Ha, for a split second I thought it said “Parker Lewis” in the title
So, is this sludge too? Proto-sludge? Neo-sludge? Post-sludge?? I am so lost, guys…
This is straight up post-rock. On the hard side and a little metallic in places though
post-metal. (but yeah “post-rock” is not a bad answer
). but it’s not sludge at all.
I think you invented this musical style, now you have to let us know what it is ! ![]()

Yeah, right, that would be like having the vegetarian explain the different cuts for steaks…
I think your first new, original composition posted here, @terb, will start the neo-sludge movement - I am convinced of that!!
sludge :
proto-sludge / pre-sludge (which is somewhere between stoner or grunge, and actual sludge) (this song is VERY early pre-sludge, even pre-stoner in fact) :
post-sludge (which is the sludgy side of post-metal) :
not sure … post-desert-rock would work, but not really neo-sludge ![]()
another of my original compositions would work better in this role :
pretty much a sludgy song with an almost electro feel (this thing is 8 yr old
)
I might be getting old, Laurent, but I am sure we have had the first one before, and also your own song… But, a good time to introduce your previous creative output to the new folks on the forum!! And to get a primer on the degrees of sludgeness out there…
By the way, you guys should have done the soundtrack for the Blair Witch Project… you must have had the same cameraman
that’s possible ! at least you already had a song from Dopethrone (not necessarily this one ? not sure) and very possibly my old song. it was just here for illustration purpose, no spamming intended !
just to be sure, here is another song from Dopethrone, the album which defined SLUDGE :
and another one because why not :
and one from Dopesick (Eyehategod), same year (2000) :
I love sludge so much
(all of those songs are pure sludge)
