I can’t find any new songs that get my attention and make me want to play them on my 4 string bass (waiting on a 5 to play death metal). I’m pretty open in terms of genres- metal, funk, rock, whatever. Shill me songs you like to play
What’s going on
Bernadette
You keep me hanging on
Whipping post
Crossroads
I feel free
Rocket queen
Not sure what you’ve already listened to
haven’t already listened to those, thank you!
Down tune your four string and go for it.
Lol
Try this…
Invert The Idols Bass Tab by Dying Fetus | Songsterr Tabs with Rhythm
Or this
PARANOID BASS (ver 4) by Black Sabbath @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
PanterA:
Mouth For War
Cowboys From Hell
Walk
F*cking Hostile
War Nerve
The Great Southern Trendkill (the last half is pretty fun especially, imo)
Drag the Waters
Lamb of God:
Redneck
Metallica:
Master of Puppets
Orion
Pretty fun/active songs, imo. Pretty much anything in the old “groove metal” genre should be pretty “mobile” on the playing (without being an obnoxious wankfest of rapidfire notes XD )
Could you recommend something a little harder?
The basic Riff for Paranoid is fun and pretty straight forward with the bonus of being very recognisable.
The other one was purely because it’s a Death Metal band who’s bassist plays a 4 string. I should have added a winking emoticon.
Actually, have you seen the 50 song challenge section of the forum Magnus?
Is there nothing in there that might interest you?
I’ll take a look
Try “Wasteland” by Riverside. Lots of complicated (at least for me) chords and lines.
What’s Goin’ On - Marvin Gaye - you can’t not like this bass line or song
Someone had the nerve to tell me Inner City Blues was the best song on his Whats Going On album
All the songs on What’s Going On are the best song on the album, at least while you’re listening to that song. Not sure how that works, I think it has something to do with the multiverse.
If you like thumping
Patti Austin Quincy Jones - Betcha wouldnt hurt me
I totally agree with this.
@Glitch you have looked over the 50 song challenge I guess, and not found enough to challenge you?
Beatle fan here, so I suppose my first recommendation (not that I’ve played it, but it’s supposed to be good) would be “Hey Bull Dog” by the Beatles. Or, as long as you don’t hate the Fab Four, some others that (although maybe not really super hard for non-beginners) might be hard to actually play well:
- I Want You
- Something
- And Your Bird Can Sing
- Lovely Rita
- Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite
- “10 Underrated Beatles Bass Lines”
- Day Tripper
- I Saw Her Standing There looks like it will keep your fingers busy
Most are melodic, at the least!
this was me as a teenager, knowing little about string gauges, setups, etc Detune to BEAD? no problem
It actually worked pretty well, shockingly
Y’see, this is why I need another 4-string.
And then a 5 string so that I can stop buying 4-strings for each tuning - it’s a money saver I tells ya!
