Short History of Yamaha Basses

Ran across this today… Interesting read…. One of the contenders for my next bass purchase is the BBP35-5…

I approve of the SB-7a in the hero image

Wicked COOL bass…. For some reason the headstocks on those necks always reminded me of a Samurai Sword…

Yeh they are called Flying Samurais

It’s my favorite bass style, I love my SBV-800MF.

SWEET!! Every so often I’ll see one for sale on Reverb. Just never bought an instrument without playing it first….

Sweet. Yeah the BB2024 line was the pro level from about 15 years ago and they still go for about $2k. Really great.

Very nice SBV too

I’m a giant Yamaha fanboy.

OK, probably my favorite Yamaha bass I’ve seen. I love my BB, but hate the color!

Just curious, what color do yo have?

It’s the classic candy apple red look, with no pickguard.

The guy is still asking way way too much for it so I won’t pass the ad on but I still love the idea of this as a package deal:

SGV700 and SBV500 in the same color, adorable

Just want to call out this IS the classic BB look

That red was pure 70s/80s BB1200 era awesome.

Oh for sure! And this is a pretty nice example of it, TBH. I just can’t help but look at it and think - man, this would look so much better with a pickguard, LOL. I mean, I almost feel bad about it, but there’s no accounting for taste.

I would stand in front of that bass wearing a garland of garlic bulbs and holding a wooden cross to protect it from any attack by evil pickguards. :guitar:

Something that wasn’t mentioned in the article;

Somewhere between the SB bass and the BB basses (i’m thinking early 80’s?), Yamaha produced P and J bass copies.

I own a Jazz much like this, mine is a project that used to belong to the late Jazz great, Jeff Andrews.
