Good strings, I prefer the nickel version of the 66s. Sounds a bit warmer. Rotosounds are a great buy if in UK, very cheap to get. All the main string manufacturers make great strings and you can’t go wrong with any modern strings. Using Daddario NYXL on one of my Basses at the moment and they are excellent. DR make great strings.

So many strings, so many opinions.
Personally, I dislike flats, preferring the sound of new roundwounds.
I use D’Addario NYXLs on my “normal” basses and Dingwall nickels on my … Dingwalls.
I’m actually quite interested in buying a set of D’Addario XS strings, they apparently have a coating that keeps the new string zing for longer…

I don’t bend the strings before I cut them. What’s the point of doing that? I’m genuinely curious.
All you need to do is check the length, you don’t want to cut them too short. I spent three months with an A-string that would go slightly out of tune because I cut it too short and had only one wrap on the tuner post. 
It prevents the outer wrap from unravelling from the core.

They seem like an excellent solution to a $600 poly coat or a $1200 epoxy coat on a fretless neck. Besides the economy, wouldn’t they look super sexy on this…
forgot to mention the A string is a special beast on Fender shaped objects. If the string is cut normally, a common problem is to get a buzz on the A string because the break angle is too shallow. So a good practice is to clip the A sting a bit long and get a couple more winds on it, increasing the angle and avoiding the buzz.
Yes its a design flaw, and possibly why other designs have string trees. Leo never addressed it.

With tapewounds and flatwounds the wrap can come unwound from the core.
It’s possible it might not happen, but it happens often enough that there are quite a few articles about it.

TI Jazz Flats are in the different category altogether.

If you want more Zing then get a little lighter gauge 120-40 or 125-45. But the one you picked is pretty good. If you want an In Your Face Zing then go with TI Jazz round there’s more than enough Zing to go around, and if you want the ultimate then get the Optima Gold string, the Unique Studio is just too good.
This has 4 string comparison and Two are from Thomastik Infeld, one Jazz round and one Jazz flat. The 23" scale has the special string by Dogal, it should sound remarkably like a normal bass but how?
This one has a 5 string Optima gold string on my Fretless Feugo, it has a lot of bites even on a fretless
This is the Optima gold but not the Unique Studio, just the regular line. It screams. Love it. I summoned my inner Lee Sklar for this cover. Take this with a grain of salt, as this bass has the EMG RipTide pickup and RayRoss Saddleless bridge and both significantly contribute to the brightness.
