No, this would look simply hackneyed and stupid, and there’s no real gain. It’s also going to move the strings too close to the edge of the fretboard, and in the end, there’s no reason to do it.
If you want a brass nut, find one in the correct width.
To be serious for a moment: in fact I practice as much as never before.
Those basses are a perfect fit, they are truly mine and I really enjoy their sound (even with the dp126).
They feel like … home!
And this thread is fun. Not everybody adds to my knowledge, but I really did learn a lot.
And it’s great that people can ventilate their emotions here even if they are not helpful otherwise.
Everybody gets something out of it, obviously. And that’s good, right?
Seriously, just buy a nut that fits. Bolting all the bullshit you have lying around the house onto your bass can work if you’re going for a specific vibe, sure, but really I don’t think that’s the case here.
Taste is deeply personal, so that gets me nowhere…
But of course the “x is sh#t” often leads to funny discussions, some even clever (to quote your favourite, Billie Joel), so I follow where it leads and pick what is useful.
I wish I can tell you to leave it alone but I just put the LSR roller nut on my Tele and will be installing another on my cutlass CT-50 so this is up to you.
