Stock tuners on the BB, these will fit cut .135 no problem at all
HipShot ultralites on my SBV, same

No, that is of course nonsense!
I am saying that it is very hard to use a long scale string on a short scale bass, especially the E string.
105 will be hard, 135 impossible, in my opinion.
I am talking cutting it down, so that you only have the thicker part of the string left.
Reason: it will very likely not fit in the little hole in the tuner. And it will be very hard (if not impossible) to wind around the tuner, especially in case of 135.
I have various tuners here and some left over 105 and 125 strings. Will test this later today…
Works fine for me, check the pics I sent, clearly large enough.
Can you make pics that show the E tuner as well as the nuts? For both basses? These are both 135?
no, those are .100, but you can still tell the hole is large enough. Bottom tuner is the E string tuner for the BB.
You only have three strings on your BB? Is there a reason? Hooky does that too?
Also, the E string does not look cut at it’s thickest part:
OK, tested it:
125 on Gotoh GB707 / Hipshot GB7:
125 on Wilkinson tuner:
105 on Gotoh GB707 / Hipshot GB7:
105 on Wilkinson tuner:
I would not do this at all with flatwounds (from experience), but even with round wound it will be hit&miss (depending on your tuner) and not easy to wind…
can you count?
Anyway, I’ve definitely done it with .105 without any trouble at all (whatever you may choose to believe, DGAS really). .135 I had thought were super-longs too but in retrospect those might have still been in the taper after cutting, sure - but even if they wouldn’t fit, it’s close.
Winding the cut .105s was not a problem.
No, I’m dyscountic
But I have used an elaborated AI:
Also I marked the positition where you can see that you are not using the cut/thick part in the tuner…
I have tried that - but with flatwounds. That was not a good idea
That’s the SBV, not the BB.
Ah, I cannot see that from the headstock. But you know what I mean?
The BB headstock says “BroadBass” on it, which BB is an acronym for.
Anyway, I’m out, it works fine with .105, try it or not, whatever.
If only they made different length bass strings for short, medium and regular scaled basses.
Then it would make the process so much simpler for the consumer.
Oh wait…………
100% agreed!
But @howard found a way to use anything (except shorter strings ^^)
I haven’t read the thread back that far but my guess is that as usual Jan you’re trying to fit a square peg in a round hole and then post about it ad nauseum.
Buy the right length string for the bass and there is no manufactured drama.
Hahahaha! If you had read the thread you would know this is not the case…
But the overall theme of this entire thread is; let’s make life really difficult for myself by making unusual choices or ignoring conventional wisdom.
I’m not right about much, but this much I know
I haven’t read your whole sentence, but this is a good start in knowing thyself
I find it fascinating that you still come here, comment, and add nothing to the discussion. Never. Why is that?
I have SIT on my Classic Vibe Jazz, they are about on par with Fender 45 and Slinky, and that’s saying something. I got them on Amazon day for, for, well I forgot, but it was less than $20.
but it was less than $20.
Unfortunately you can’t get the short scale SIT in Germany. That’s the problem of living in a communist country - we don’t have too much choice in terms of products ^^
But I’m very happy with the D’Addario. It’s quite a step up from the old “thin” D’Addarios!
The funny thing is that the tone differnce between the DP126 and EMG GZR pickups became much more noticeable now. Which is a great thing. The EMG GZR sound more nasty now, the DP126 deeper…
Not all string share the same design it looks like yours is tapered so yeah, it may not fit. Plus your tuners look on the petite size too. It could be the ultra lite design.
From experience, I really enjoy the perk of less strings tension on my short scale. The extra low end it produces from the designs is a treat. Someday I like my tension firm and stretching my finger reach I’d just grab one of my 35” and other days I love the short scale.
