Glad you endured it @Krescht.
The camera auto-focus got me tilted in that interview. Something that is bugging me is that PJ possible has the worst marketing team in the world. I haven’t seen any good video or interview where the quality, camera and/or script are up to modern-day standard and their online presence also feels a bit outdated. Not sure if they are just very unlucky or that they just don’t give a sh*t about it. If it’s the latter then I can appreciate that because it prob means they just wanna focus on what they do best.
Imagine if he put that much energy into autofocus!?!?!?
I think he’s talking mostly about thermal and electrical efficiency… not so much about what sounds best because he mentions that money buys sound quality. For all of the scientific blah blah and marketing stuff, I’m sure we’ve all experienced the fact that bigger speakers give a rumble in your gut that small speakers don’t. The same way smaller speakers sound thinner and more accurate. What you feel you hear is the most important thing, not what someone markets to you.
Nice. I approve of your choice of amp. I have it’s little brother, the PF-500 (I’m guessing yours is the pf-800).
That’s also why I went for smaller speakers because I mostly play on low volume in my living room. A big speaker needs more volume to sound good so that is something I can’t really do in my current situation. At the moment I also prefer 2x10 over a 1x15 cab. In the future I will try out a 1x12 cab too just to experience how that sounds.
Like say a 40x15" 40,000 Watt cabinet? Or a Bose wave radio the size of a room? Or a 60"?
I have a Dayton omnimic (somewhere in my basement). haven’t used it in years. should drag it out and do some fr’s on my pjb cabs. $300.
How do you like the Solid State Ampeg? Does it get close to the SVT tone or is it supposed to be different?
Amazing rig btw!
Know that’s some really impressive sound waves moving through the crowd
WoW! That is some massive sound! I don’t think the video is doing this justice.
Check out 1:50 where the girls hair is moving to beat.
What?
Do they pass out hearing aids on the way out?
so I recently bought a second headrush frfr because, already having one, it was the easiest way to experiment with stereo with my new Helix stomp. heard enough to know I like it, so sold one of the frfr’s yesterday. keeping the other one in my bedroom practice space.
Also put my excellent ashdown amp up on reverb if anybody’s interested.
BTW I’m not really going ampless, but the real story is a bit too complicated as you can see ![]()
so my new setup! I have 2 phil jones C4 cabs, which are 4 x 5". I got the idea when I read in an old thread on a forum that some guitar player guy was experimenting with using his Phil Jones as a frfr cab. it struck me that these cabs would be excellent for that. so I moved them downstairs to my living room where they now sit next to my corner subwoofers for excellent stereo seperation.
and to power them I got these Harley Benton 300Bs:
I have been intrigued by these guys since they came out. you can defeat the eq with a button push, turning them into, essentially, power amps for the Helix. line in on the front with seperate volume for it handles my BeatBuddy drums. 300 watts at 4 ohms would make it 150 watts with 8 ohm cabs and maybe a little underpowered. but I’ve got 2 of them so no problem! it’s like they were made for me. and both of them cost less than my ashdown used. now I just got to find some power cords for them, forgot they’re British.
@itsratso. Nice
@itsratso. Nice x 2
Would you mind taking the cover off to see which model power stage they have? I totally understand if you do. How did you get these with reasonable shipping costs?
tearing open equipment always goes badly for me and it’s got some weird tabs holding it together sooo no
. it is powered by the same ice 300 amp that everyone uses though. and shipping for both was only $27 and got to Chicago in 3 days, amazing.
