Really nice woodgrain on that!
That’s the TBRX 604 right? Research says that’s my next bass but I think they are out of stock everywhere and I need to actually play one first…
This was the exact situation I just found myself in. Sold out everywhere, so no way to try one out to see if you do even want to buy one when it is available. I bought mine used from Guitar Center online. 180 day return policy lets me test drive it a good long time. I figure even if I don’t like this used one, I can try it out and return it towards a new one if they restock them, or a new bass entirely. It isn’t the ideal way to go about the process, but it will work.
I returned one after 5 months, so they will honor it if you don’t want to keep it.
I thought I was in love with the bass I returned when I first got it, I was so damn happy with it, and it was Orange even. I loved it. But it was an Ibanez SR 300, and I started playing Stingray’s as my main bass.
I kept one Ibanez, but it was a higher model, the SR 400. Plus it was orange, and I did not get it from GC, so to return it is to put it up for sale. Lol
The dark wood grain SR650e is the one I want if I end up not loving this TBRX604. Went with the TBRX first because it catches my eye just a bit better (although they are both beautiful) and it was a bit cheaper. We will see, but so far this Yamaha rocks.
Did you ask about when and or if they might get restocked anywhere?
Yep! TRBX604FM. Out of the four basses I have owned it’s my favorite, by far.
The Ibanez SR line look, sound, and feel great to me. If I ever upgrade my TRBX, it will be to something like the SR2400:
Even then it’s not a huge upgrade though; the basses are very similar and while the SR has a better preamp and pickups (Aguilar vs YGD), the YGD electronics in the TRBX are really damn good.
No I didn’t ask, just kept checking online everywhere for a while and eventually went with the used one. But used ones seem pretty rare too.
I would love to be able to put this one in my hands same time as the 604 for a side by side comparison. Out of all my searching, even including more expensive price ranges I kept coming back to these two.
The 650 is a great bass. It’s cute how they split the humbucker to look like a P pickup. I really like that
edit: wow, I was totally wrong, it is actually a split coil and single coil.
They call it a reverse P. I haven’t heard anyone who has picked one up say a bad word about the pickups, but they are an interesting setup. They are Nordstand designed, not Nordstand, but everyone says they rock.
I’ve loved the feel of every SR I have picked up and played. The 2400 I tried was of course amazing but the SR500’s I played with were great feeling too. The only thing that stops me from wanting to buy one is that I basically already have the same bass in the TRBX, and as much as I like Ibbies, I am a big Yamaha fanboy.
Info on those pups from a source that definitely knows what he’s talking about:
I just got this same bass after going thru 4 other short scale basses while waiting for the Covid crap to go away . I am really getting into it. It is really light compared to other short scales. Incredible sustain on the E string. A little issue tuning at the 12th fret. I swapped the factory strings for Daddario 45 - 100 and it has made some really nice sounds.
Welcome aboard @gts,
Enjoy the ride.

I have an SR650 @BassFaceDisgrace. I can’t speak highly enough about it. Looks good, plays good, sounds good . It’s still my go to for learning anything new.
I have a 2008 Cirrus 4 that is in the shop now getting some hipshots, a Sterling Music Man Sub 4, and my newest addition Fender P Nate Mendel, which is quickly becoming my favorite…
I am also considering ordering a Jazz Bass from the folks at Overwater… but they are too pricey…
That P looks incredible
Is that the black or blue Ray 4? I have the blue one, but is many light settings, it looks like the black one. it is my go to bass. I need to re string and probably PLECK my Ray 34 before it becomes my go to over the Ray 4 which I bought new, and set up myself. Fortunately I got one that was put together very well, and only needed slight truss and bridge adjustments to play like a dream.
