Show Us Your Basses (Part 1)

I don’t actually.

IDK if it has not grown on me, or if I don’t like it. I am still in the deciding phase.
I like my double buck LTD’s, and almost every other double buck bass I have played, but not this one so much.
But I am not giving up on it yet.
But if I decide I don’t like it, I will defiantly sell it off and put to towards one of those. That is kind of my hold off on the black one. The reason I am going for the natural is because it the only one that is 8 year old stock / floor model, and I may get it for over $300 off list. Well, I am not going to buy it if it is not over $300 off list.

Interesting! Why not? One thing I think most Stingrays I have heard could improve on is more low end and less mids in their tone, which the neck pup should help a lot with.

(edited in with the answer, thanks for explaining!)

So many amazing Bass guitars you have shown. Very nice! All beautiful.

I have noticed a little rattle, but since I’m still getting used to plucking, I think that may be the issue right now - being less smooth than I should. I tried to make very minor adjustments to the truss, but ended up reverting them as I think I am the malfunction more than the Bass at this point!

I’ll get there, though.

It really does, and I mean REALLY flattens it out. Too much. Almost every other position BUT the dual coil bridge position, sounds way too soft. And I have gotten used to no pick up in the neck area, so it is kind of a double blow

I have been pretty bummed out, because I really want to like it. And I do like it if Just use the Bridge pick enough to play it and jam with it, but it kind of defeats the whole idea of it.
I love the color and the maple neck

edit: That reply was to @howard , but its just fine going to you Ant.

Note that in the first video I showed about how to set up your bass, he is using a Stingray as his example.

@T_dub Blanket reply:

I have looked at a few when I first got the Bass. Felt a little overwhelmed at first, but as I look at more, I feel like I am understanding the concept more. I’ll take a look at these!

Thank you!

Yes, it really makes a difference. If you love it already, and you get it set just a little better, you can only imagine.
You don’t really need to be afraid, if you follow the instructions, and do a little at a time, you will get there.
And remember, with new bass, and new strings…
If you feel a buzz that needs to be addressed, address it.
It is not that you did a bad jot, it is just the bass blossoming into an instrument of it’s own.

@bfreedy That is a beautiful bass.

I read that Fender changed the body contouring for the Ultra.
Is it enough that you can tell a difference from the regular Jazz Bass contouring?
Also, what do you think of the compound radius neck?

That’s interesting @eric.kiser
I only have the player P bass but sliding up to the 19th fret for a song m practicing is quite difficult. I wonder if recontouring the body would alter this

Hey Eric. I’m still a total newbie, and I’m beyond lucky that I have these basses to play. I’m starting to get more and more comfortable on the 5 compared to my 4. The neck has a satin finish which makes moving around it a little easier. The string distances on the 5 don’t seem to be an issue for me the more I play it. I feel it plays a little more “nimble” than my 4 which is an American Jazz Pro.

why what an excellent choice you have made

edit: me and tdub have a friendly competition to see who is more nuts about music man.

I have to agree with @T_dub here the first thing I did when I got my bass was put on some new strings I like the DR Pure blues then a complete set up. A few Allen wrenches and a set of feeler gauges plus a metric 6”ruler and you can get that action just right for the way you play and the intonation spot on.

I too put on new DR strings and had a pro (not guitar center lol) help set it up for me. For some reason the strings it came with felt “clunky” to me, as well as the action itself.

I have one of those in a five string. Awesome bass.
