Show Us Your Basses (Part 1)

A bit late to the party, but I think that might be (the remains of) a micro-tilt adjustment.

BINGO! I was right!
The sad part is I really would like this feature to work again as I do indeed need to tilt the neck to drop the string action. One more bit for the project on this one to get it up and running again.

Thanks @Mike_NL !!

So it turns out (after some research) that this ‘micro adjuster’ isn’t broken after all, it works just fine.

Not so sure I would call it a ‘micro’ adjuster. A small turn has a HUGE impact on neck angle, but it does work and is very cool and I would say almost a necessity (vs. shimming) for a bass like this that has a piezo and saddle ‘nut’ vs. an adjustable bridge. Other than shimming there is no way to adjust the angle other than this. Still dialing it in but getting there. Hooray!

Oh interesting! Never heard of that. Cool idea.

That green one is a beauty. Did you figure out what the hum was from?

Yes. It’s the Fender noiseless pickups. It’s as good as it gets. Fender tech checked it. Apparently it make too much sense to put “Lessnoise” than noiseless.

The good news is that it’s not an active Eq like many others. It just boost. I have the Providence boost, very clean boost. I can just use that and run passive.

My newest acquisition, a Sire V7 in Lake Placid Blue. It sounds great and the neck is wonderful to play.

WOW! I really need a blue bass.

Love the matching headstock.

Well, I’m a little down on Sweetwater, but won’t go into the drama because we all need less of the stuff. But they say they’ll go after Ibanez for sending out a defective bass, and admit they missed it. Which is probably the last I will hear of it.

New page.

Sire V7 on the way. First thing I will do is put on new strings through the body, either D’Addario EXL170 Chromes orETB92 Tapewounds. Looking forward to seeing if the V7 is all she’s cracked up to be.

Would love to know that you think of it.

Having just purchased a V7 myself I think you’ll really like it. I’ve only had mine a couple of days but I’m really liking it. I especially like how the bridge pickup sounds soloed. The preamp seems pretty good too.

I have to say in general Sweetwater has been just great. Any company that big is going to have some blips and bumps. To me its how they handle them, and so far its been a good ride, better than most.

I was trying to find a Bartolini buffer/preamp for the hollow body Fender I just bought. This guy Doug at Bartolini was helping me find who had it in stock. Of course they just updated them and they are new, so…no one had it, they had them sitting at a distributor (side note, this whole instrument distribution chain is starting to show itself and as I learn about it its just crazy how things are sitting places in between mfg and retailer and we can’t get to the goods).

Anyhow, he called Sweetwater and had it set up as an item (that isn’t in their offerings) so that I could order it through them. Talked to my sales guy, explained the deal, he had no idea what i was talking about but said he would go sort it. The next day the thing was shipping to me. This is a $105 teeny tiny part. For a megaopolis like Sweetwater to take the time to sort this out on this level was quite impressive to me.

The guy at Bartolini said that Sweetwater is really great for doing things like this, and that other outlets they work through won’t do things like this for them (hmmm…BBG take note!).

So I give Sweetwater some props for even caring. (And Bartolini for some super exceptional customer service).

I must say of late I have had amazing customer service as well from Source Audio, Iron Ether, La Bella, Blackstar and Gamechanger. Fellas at all of these have been super helpful in setting up pedals, working through issues (some were me, some were their pedals) etc.

In a time when these folks are all scrambling, its nice to see great customer service.

What happened with me is this. Sweetwater shipped me a bass with a faulty preamp. I worked with their technicians to diagnose and return it.

So Monday it arrives back at Sweetwater. At this point it’s over 3 weeks since I’ve paid for the SR600E and already been billed and paid the credit card.

Tuesday around noon I called my rep to see what’s going on, he’s out of the office. At the end of the day I got an email from a coworker saying they have the bass, it’s acclimating, they will inspect it, and enter it in the system. Then they can ship the replacement. Hopefully on Friday, today, probably next week after the holiday.

This would get me the bass middle of July.

I called him immediately, but he left for the day. Last thing he did was send me that email.

I replied just send the Ibanez back to me and I’ll warranty it through them. That I’m done with Sweetwater. I was pretty triggered

When I woke up the next morning, I’m West Coast, my replacement bass had shipped.

My rep was back in the office and took care of it. I told him what a farce their 55 point inspection is, that for the money I paid I shouldn’t get a defective bass. Ibanez QC should have caught it, but so should Sweetwater.

So a little down on them.

Do places like Sweetwater, Musician’s Friend, GC, etc. check out the guitars, amps, etc. when they come in to see if they’re defective or not?

Sweetwater claims to do a thorough inspection before shipping, which was pretty clearly BS in @Wombat-metal’s case.

Is it common practice though, or just Sweetwater who is supposed to check them? I’d think it would make more sense for any retailer to check the items they get, especially special orders.
