These are all beautiful. I’m really drawn to the inlays over the dots, which is why I like the Duff.
I thought the Noir was a one year only MIM special edition.
Did they re-release a MIJ version?
It’s a current MIJ limited edition production model.

Looks like SoundHouse (basically, our Sweetwater here) sold all theirs. The one I posted from Kurosawa above is still for sale (and I have seen that one in person, they had two).
Ishibashi still as one as well:
Just a killer looking instrument.
Could it have been a signature model.
I have noticed signature models, like the Duff that are P basses, but say Jazz onthem.
Other signatures have had headstocks saying P or J, when on the opposite body style.
Maybe it was a signature bass, so labeled different then normal.
I have yet to see this on off the shelf fenders. Then again, I have not spent much time looking.
Or like you said, maybe somebody changed the neck on the body and made a franken bass. I still like to go by the body imstead of the headstock tho.
Like stingrays. They make some with J necks, or they call them Sterling or SLO necks, but it is Always still a stingray, regardless of neck.
By this thought process, I still say if its a P body, its a P bass, and if its a J body, its a J bass.
Plus, even tho Duff bass says Jazz on the headstock, as far as I can remember, the descriptions I have always have seen on every website I recall looking at, I remember them still calling them Duff Sig P bass.
But my memmory could be wrong, it has failed me man times before.

Yeah, I’d put money on that too. It’s definitely a jazz control plate and neck with the inlays. The old precisions have horizontally lined control knobs - jazzes always go at that angle away from the pickguard.
Unless it’s a weird PJ combo thing where anything goes ![]()
The headstock does look to say precision though, so maybe it’s a combo from god knows when / where.
@franx - What happened to it in the end? Did you have to get rid?
The mystery is being solved…
I left to study abroad and sold it. It’s a pity there was no way of keeping it. But it goes to show that playing bass is something I always wanted to do. Thanks!
It’s a shame, but as you say, at least it’s a reminder that you want to play bass so not all bad
Hot damn that is so sweet.
Enjoy the hell out of it!
Very nice!
I think if they put an ebony neck on this Paranormal I’d be compelled to buy it. Must resist. Have other plans.
The Paranormal is a really nice bass. Fit and finish are top notch, except the pickups which have a slight gap at the bottom, but they are not stock pickups so no complaints.
Solid maple neck. It feels good and plays good. The frets are all nice and smooth, running your hand up the neck I didn’t notice the frets until Fret 17 or 18.
Tuner machines are serviceable. No complaints, might change them out at some point.
The bass is not heavy, the body feels good. Contours well placed, very comfortable to hold and play.
The pickguard. It is anodized aluminum, and I was expecting them to cut corners, but I am surprised at how thick it is. Solid piece of metal.
The setup is perfect, but then Sweetwater installed the pickups so not factory.
The Apollo pickups are fantastic. Playing just the bridge pickup, I get the bark of a EBMM. They are hum free. I am playing with the tone knobs to dial it in but everything sounds nice and bright, and modern. I pick a note, and it rings a long time, even after I would expect the note to decay its a pure tone. Good pickups.
And I may fall in love with tone/tone volume/volume.
I’ll give it a couple weeks but this is just a great bass. I have a kickass bridge I am in no hurry to put on as it is near perfect as it is. I won’t say this is my favorite until I have it a few weeks but I really love the feel right now.
yeah, ebony is a great fretwood. My Player Jaguar has an ebony neck and I love it. Right now the Jag and Paranormal are my two favorites.
so pretty!!!
Oh interesting, I didn’t know they did that.
2020 MIA Geddy Lee Jazz, black Hipshot tuners w/ drop D, Black pickguard, black stacked pot control plate, black pickup screws. Next will be a black Gotoh or Hipshot bridge and black vol knobs.
Nice. I blacked out a Squier jazz and upgraded the pickup and electronics.
Welcome to the forum. Glad you are here.
Thanks. I cant post a pic.
