Show Us Your Basses (Part 1)

Very nice.

A Sire V5 is a great deal. It has essentially all the features of a V7 while not costing much more than a V3.

Isn’t the V5 a passive bass?

Hahaha… It actually does!

Yeah, she sits in a special spot in my living room, so is the first thing I see when I get home from work. Cheers

Yeah. I’m torn between the active electronics in the V3 and the overall fit and finish of the passive V5.

Yep, a Sire V5 is passive, with a great vintage Jazz sound.

While it doesn’t have a preamp like a V7, or even a V3, I’d go with a V5 as the best bang for the sonic and build features buck. Just my $0.02.

Excellent bass!

A big “depends” here.
Marcus and that style uses an active preamp, but if you have a preamp pedal you can do the same thing. I’m personally not a huge fan of “generic” preamps in basses as they are just one more thing to go wrong, one more place for noise, and of course, batteries!

If you’re not looking for that hot J sound then passive your way to a 5.

YMMV though.

I would go passive, it is easy to add a preamp to your chain. And you won’t freak out like I do when I can’t find an extra battery in my case. For me, they need to be replaced at the most inopportune times.

I would go with the V5

I like passive basses, the generic Sire preamp doesn’t add much, least it didn’t on my V7

I have a couple D5s and love the quality, if the V5 is anything like it it’s the way to go

Awesome. Sounds pretty unanimous that the V5 is the way to go. Appreciate all the feedback!

As much as I love my active stuff, I say passive and out it through an Xotic EP Boost. So good.

Hey everyone! I’ve been MIA for a while. Just trying to keep up with life. Lot’s of new stuff going on, etc.

Anyhow, quick update, I started working at Guitar Center so I got myself a nice new bass, and I thought I’d share.

I think, @Koldunya may appreciate this one.

I’m really loving it so far. Very powerful sound, though I know not everyone is into that EMG “sterile” tone, but it works for me, at this point in time at least.

Ooh. Nice Schecter, great color.

Very nice. I like the neck-through treatment. What’s the weight of it?

Yeah, I like it.

Its supposed to be a limited edition color, I think.

It looks good, but the neck through thing freaks me out, lol. Hope i never drop it.

Its roughly 9 plus lbs, so not too heavy at all.

Oooh, nice, I like it. My current main bass is a Stiletto Custom 4… pretty much the same but with a bolt-on neck and without the cool purple (but it’s really nice, flamed maple and walnut).

It’s taken me a bit to get used to it as well. I tell you though, it may not sound as warm or smooth as other basses out there when played solo, but damn if it doesn’t cut through the mix super cleanly and nice sounding.

At least from what I’ve seen in my private little sound lab, stripping the bass tracks out of MP3s and using Reaper to record my own bass track.

Yep. It’s definitely a bass for a certain type of sound or style.

Its almost ready made for some Tool mid range’y type tones.
