Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum and just getting back to playing after a long break. Here is my current bass lineup. I have two more basses on the way . I worked at a guitar store for many years when I was younger and I always loved having lots of basses around. I figured I might as well pick up where I left off and create a new collection
Thanks for the kind words.
My particular GAS syndrome finds relief in the purchase of Japanese early Fenders, Matsumoku Aria/Aria Pros, and the early Ibanez BTBs. I also have some really neat Fernandes basses.
Maybe I will post one a day. Hopefully someone will enjoy the variety.
I am glad to be here at BassBuzz. What a great resource for us! Thanks Josh.
Oh you’re in the right place my friend. You certainly are, welcome
Apparently FujiGen is making them again for Fender. I have a 2022 Fender Japan P-Bass and the serial number lookup indicates FujiGen, anyway. I have no other validation of that. I’d actually thought Fender opened up their own plant here. Regardless, the quality is through the roof.
Both of my basses are Japanese (I live here too, which makes it the most economical as well). I have a mid-2000s Yamaha SBV-550 (made in Taiwan) and recently picked up the Fender as well. Love them both.
Every time I go to Ochanomizu I’m tempted by this horde of mid-80s MIJ Yamaha Motion Basses that Shimokura has for some reason. They have had them for years and they are really cheap but excellent quality and fun to play. Might get one sometime. That said, I’m not a collector.
So many choices here, it’s insane.
I collect the Japanese flame top Aerodynes, have a hollow body “HMT” Fender and then a MIJ Marcuse Miller Jazz
Forgot about my Edwards E-Groover - guess that makes 9, lol
My two bass buddies!
On the left, we have a custom rebuilt Samick Artist Series of unknown vintage. I picked this thing up for next to nothing at a fundraiser auction years ago. Everything was corroded and trash except for the wood.
I replaced the tuners, the bridge, strap posts, volume and tone dials, and the electronics.
It’s currently rocking the EMG Geezer Butler Signature Series PJ pickups, and a set of DR Strings “Red Devils”.
On the right, it’s a stock Epiphone Goth-edition Thunderbird strung up with a set of DR Strings “Black Beauties”.
I was starting to think that I was the only person on earth who still owned a Samick!!!
I’m sure we’re not the only ones, @Vince !
If there’s any other Samick owners out here, this is your invitation to show off what you got!
Very nice stable! Congrats!
Samick have a really good reputation for price/performance, especially if you get a made in Korea one.
Love the pickguard!
That Fender MIJ is a sweet lookin brush
Love that Samick! It looks kinda dangerous
I think I have been seeing a few of your posts on another popular site. You are living my dream. Those Pbass Aero basses are extremely rare. If I find one I will buy it for sure. Also, if I ever see an Aero 5’er, I’ll sell a leg to buy it.
I also love the PBAC Pbass… I am not as big a fan of the 80s “dinky” headstock but that wouldn’t deter me. I just missed out on one that popped up on Yahoo Auction in Japan. It went for crazy money.
The P/J Aerodynes? I’ve seen them all over the place here - been a while since I looked though. Nice looking instruments for sure. Come back for a visit and check the usual spots, I bet you’ll find them
Recommend Mercari these days. This one went for about 9万円 earlier this year…
He means the straight Ps I think.
They are super rare.
I’ve only ever seen one come up
I have been playing for 8 months and am self taught. I play a Yamaha TRBX-174 and have a Boss Katana 110 combo amp.
I primarily use it as a P-bass with the neck pickup set to 100% and the tone set to 100% - and the bridge pickup set to 0%.
I started with a Cort 15W 8" amp that cost 100 dollars. I soon replaced it with the Katana. I have the bluetooth module so that I can stream audio directly from my iPod or smartphone. I also fell for the different effects that are build in but in reality I never use them.
If other beginners ask I’d recommend the bass guitar but I’d advice them to buy the Fender Rumble 40 or 100 instead. Less is more
Ahh interesting! Yeah, I’ve never seen one. P/J are everywhere but I have never seen a P.
