I picked up another 70’s CV p bass. I like my sea foam green one so much I thought I’d get another. It plays well and sounds good.
I bought it as a possible project bass. More art project really. I thought I might want to paint it. I probably will at some point. And put in some quarter pounders for good measure.
I seriously considered this bass. Played one in the store for a while. It’s really good, close to a Player I would say. Quality was fine. It could use better pickups, but so can most basses in that price range. They look great too. Nice choice.
They are excellent. The build quality is top notch. The Buckeye Burl one in my earlier post is one of the Wojtek Pilichowski signature Frog models. The blue on is a regular Frog. I placed an order for another Maruszczyk earlier this week that should see in about 4 months.
I really like boutique custom builders. I had a few back when I used to play a lot. I have another boutique fretless arriving next week from MGbass.
Thanks. They are SO good. I stumbled upon their Youtube videos when I was thinking of starting to play again. After a bit of research and reading what other people who use them had to say I decided to go with them as the bass to get me back into it. I like the two I have now so much that I ordered a third.
In 1998 I went to uni and bought a Bass. Because that’s what you do… this lady was purchased second hand in Johnny Roadhouse Music on Oxford Road in Manchester, UK almost exactly 24 years ago. Shes been sitting in storage unstrung for the last 8 since I moved to the US. I finally got around to buying a new amp this week that works on this country’s power… I’ve cleaned her, done a new setup and new strings and she sounds great. Currently hunting down a new Gotoh bridge and saddles and looking to at knobs because the brass has become pitted. Too much time hanging on a wall gathering dust over the years.
Might also replace the tuning gears because they are all a little sketch and the odd one is bugging me (that was present when I bought it). Looks like Gotoh also makes a suitable replacement there too.
No apologies for the stickers, my much younger self thought they were cool! I may clean them off, I may not!
This old friend is going nowhere, she just deserves a clean and some use!
If I can stick my goals and progress through the modules she may however get some company!
That price just hurt my poor eyes. What is more interesting is that I just missed buying this bass in Japan. I can tell you the markup on this thing is crazy. It was just on Yahoo Auction in Japan. I bid on it but I just couldn’t justify the price it went for in Japan. Worth it, but a little high for my current budget. I would have bought it FOR SURE had it not had those two dings on the back. I buy to collect… not resell and I wanted a pristine bass.
He has put about a $1000 (Can$) markup on that bass. I guess that is what capitalism is all about!
Ouch. With the exchange rate, it’s probably the best time in history to be ordering to NA from Japan, too. Some amazingly good deals out there; new FujiGen JMP’s for like $700 US, etc. My MIJ Fender P was a bit less than that at the time, new. Basically got it for the cost of a high end Squier in the US. I just saw a SBV-550 in nice shape for about $475 US.
The rates this year have been brutal, which hurts bad as almost all of my cash is here in yen
