Show Us Your Basses (Part 1)

I just don’t dig the new flat colors, although the white is probably the best of the bunch.

Hi.
My newest bass. A year ago I bought a Gretsch G2220 Junior Jet II that I didn’t quite like. Even though it was, at the time, my most expensive bass, the quality wasn’t quite what I expected. So that went back to Thomann.
I have read a few reviews on the Marcus Miller U5 short scale and have also been looking at Nordstrand Acinonyx.
Both seems like really nice basses. I would have liked to buy the Acinonyx, but the price here in Europe is quite high, so I went with the Marcus Miller U5.
What a nice short scale bass. I’m really happy with my decision.

So after having GAS for a while this year, I finally pulled the trigger and adopted a new bass. Not disappointed. Sounds crazy good!!!

Now you tell me!!! I bought this one because of the resale value.

@Kalin, you’re absolutely right. The Sire U5 is an excellent short scale bass. Superb build.

Taking another look, actually I am kind of liking the green and the blue. The green is a nice lightly metallic green that doesn’t come out strongly in photos; the blue is a nice sky blue. Very different than the gloss tops or flamed maple tops, but still quite nice IMO. What they need are racing stripes (joking not joking, I’m still in my Revstar honeymoon phase )

But that burst is truly an embarrassment, one of the worst I have seen in months.

I wonder how good the $205 Rickenbacker copy is from Harley Benton? And how haven’t they got sued?

I would guess the same reason Jackson hasn’t, etc.
IIRC the thing they can’t copy is the headstock, but could be wrong.

With the difference that Jackson belongs to Fender ! so they necessarily use the Fender-shaped headstock with their approval.

I guess that the Harley Benton is just enough different, compared to an actual Rick, to avoid legal issues.

During the lawsuit-thing in the 70’s against Ibanez, only the headstock have been decided to count as a lawsuit criteria for Fender and Gibson copies, but that’s because those brands never copyrighted their body shapes. I believe that Rick copyrighted everything (headstock + body) and that’s why “real copies” (lawsuit) of Rick basses are much more rare then Fender or Gibson copies. At least that’s what I understood.

At 59 years young, I’m so psyched to finally be getting serious about learning to play the bass! Here’s a pic of my New Dynamic Duo. Dark Knight American Pro II & Rumble 100. I’m really glad that BassBuzz is here to get me playing better!

Best Wishes & Happy Holidays,
