Show Us Your Basses (Part 1)

Thank you @itsratso ! I read this to my 75 year old mother in law. She laughed so hard i thought she was gonna Ralph. She says you are a funny guy and she appreciates you don’t have to work blue to get a laugh.

Tobias make great feeling necks, very comfortable to play.

A perfect dad joke. I’ll remember that.

I actually just got that last weekend! (Edit: it was actually two weekends ago! Time flies!) I’ve played on a couple of them before and always loved the tuck and roll look. I was in the market for a new rig and there this was on FB Marketplace, and what’s more it was in a non-standard color, which is a perfect match for my bass! It’s in pretty good shape except for a scratch on the back side and the vinyl is torn on one of the bottom front corners.

I see you are still missing the Fender Aerodyne APB-DMC… slacker.

So, I pulled these out of storage and realized how much I have missed the BOOMING bass from the BTB1005. Holy mother what a great sounding bass. Mine is the original, first year, Japanese model. I have 5 (I think…) 5-string basses. This one has the best B string. Very underrated basses in my opinion. They can still be bought quite affordably.

Yeah I was holding out for red in the straight P but then really didn’t care about having another straight P so got the PJ. The only straight P I have seen so far was not a DiMarzio one but a regular one in natural.

The only one I want now is the KOA special edition one (but not beat to hell like the one that’s been on eBay recently, lol).

If I saw the P in blue I might snag it as I have blue in both other configs.

Ya, I just bought the twin to your blue AJB-DMC but haven’t recieved it yet from Japan. I will post once I have it. It looks like its a bit of a major clean up project but also looks to have no body damage at all… which is nice. The attached pic is from Yahoo Japan… not my own picture.

You may remember, I managed to snag the Amber Pbass a few months back… what a beauty. Lighter than I thought it would be but very nice. I really like PJ config. in a PBass body.

No judgement obviously, but you know you might have a small collecting problem when you ‘think’ you have 5 x 5 string basses  :metal:

Nice! Be interesting to see what you think of the DiMarzio pickups. I left one set in the burst JJ and put D’Addario tapes on it to take the hotness a bit. Works pretty good. Different sound.

I have Fralins in my blue JJ

Ya I seem to remember you mentioning that they are quite hot. I read online mixed reviews… with some people saying they are “rare and desirable” and others thinking they deviate overly from the traditional JBass sound. I bought the bass mostly as a keeper/collection so I won’t play it overly (unless I love the sound I guess!)… I’ll let you know.

Ha… ya that came out oddly! I often “put away” some basses and then can’t remember if I still have them or have sold them. Another symptom of GAS addiction.

I have been starting to feel “amp gas” coming on which is dangerous… I am fighting it with an admittedly pathetic amount of energy. I have only ever really had a Fender Rumble 40. I love it… but am feeling Markbass Big Bang/LMiii gas recently. Or a Fender Rumble 800 HD which is pretty well loved out in the world.

I need neither… naturally.

Finally got the Fleabass I always wanted. The other one is my brother’s custom made bass which he designed himself.

Oh you definitely need more than one Amp :sunglasses:

Woah… What, pray tell, is that intriguing keyboard’y looking thing on top of your larger Rumble?

Where is that Pepto? I feel a case of GAS coming on…

Can’t speak for the J’s but it’s hard to describe how much more I like my MIJ P-bass with a DiMarzio Model P in it versus the stock Fender pickup (in this case, the Hybrid II P).

The DiMarzio’s just are in a different world for clarity, punchiness and sound quality. So good. Gotta love ceramic pickups for that mids punch and overall brightness. I listened to a lot of P pickups and this was my favorite.

I’d say the Model P is hot but not alarmingly so. It’s definitely not an issue with mine. And yes, it’s not a pure “vintage Fender P sound”. That’s ok with me because IMO it’s better

Oh these Dimarzios are what the call ‘heavy drive’, not sure what they equate to in their old (circa 2006-2010) lineup or today’s lineup, but they are hot as hell.
I had rounds on it for a while but didn’t love, too bright and hot for me, but that is just me.
Closest I would say is a hot music man pickup in JJ form, lol

Arturia Minilab 2. There’s the 3 version out now. Inexpensive, nice feel to the keys and it’s small.

Great brand for MIDI controllers; I’ve owned two of theirs. They don’t make a bad product.

Colorful bass. I know very little about the Fleabass, what drew you to them? Also, you might want to head over to the Introduce Yourself! (2023) thread and say hi, if you haven’t already.
