Yeah! Let me know if she has an ETSY Store.
Since I was a kid I had something for the peavey milestone, so now as a fully responsible adult decided to buy one to begin my bass journeyā¦
Letās see how it goes.
Cheers!
I thought this was for putting pizzas in the oven
Think beyond the limits of imagination, Grasshopper.
That would make a nice one-stringer.
Niceeeā¦ I think a better choice than the starter pack with the rumble 15.
Cool, like the shape of the headstock and tuners
New to the forum - finished the B2BA course a few weeks ago. Iāve been playing on this 1987 Peavey Fury and recently replaced the 20+ year-old strings with Black Beauties. Itās a great first bass. (Gotta replace that ugly strap, though!)
Hi @vtbassmatt, welcome to the forums and congrats on completing the course! Cool bass youāve got there
Hi welcome @vtbassmatt congrats on finishing the course!
Any next steps in mind?
Thanks! Yes, Iāve found a local teacher who Iām going to work with to improve my technique and deepen my understanding of theory. It was awesome to have Joshās infinite patience and replayability throughout B2BA, but now I need someone in person to point out where Iām holding my thumbs wrong and such
Thatās nice, in person teaching! Enjoy the lessons!
Hi to Everyone!
I hope everyone is doing well. Itās been a while and I have a lot to catch up with but it is new bass day and this is the place to share it. It was not GAS, I had the bass with me for days, hahaha.
These are my two basses:
A 1993-94 MIJ Fender Precision bass that some here got to see earlier. Miyuki (as baptized with the help of this gang) has been a great acquisition. I love that bass and Iām very attached to it.
And today I traded in my 2017 Fender Mustang PJ and a pedal for this Ibanez MC-800. The perfect contrast IMO.
(From ChatGTP:) The Ibanez MC-800, part of the Musician series introduced in 1977, was a high-quality Japanese-made bass crafted by FujiGen to rival American brands like Fender and Gibson. Known for its robust construction, the MC-800 featured a single passive humbucker pickup positioned near the bridge, which gave it a unique, articulate tone with a warm, slightly mid-scooped character. The bass was designed with a neck-through construction and used ash or mahogany for the body and multi-laminate rock maple for the neck, contributing to its sustain, resonance, and stability. The Ibanez MC-800 was produced from 1977 until around 1981.
Iām so happy! Cheers to everyone and have a great weekend!
I know what Iām gonna be doing.
How about show us the inside of your bassesā¦?
My Dingwall had become noisy, then this week one of the pick ups stopped working, so off to the local guitar tech it went. To calm the noise, I had the whole bass shielded - the pics are before and after.
The frets have also been dressed and polished and itās has come back like a new bass, just in time for the weekend!
The Before image is shielded already (assuming thatās conductive paint, which is what it looks like). I actually prefer the paint to tape.
Not sure about the pickup cavity but I would be very surprised if Dingwall hadnāt shielded it as well.
Yes, thatās conducive paint, @howard, but I wasnāt happy with it, or the noise coming from the bass, so I went ābelt and bracesā. Besides, I quite like the āgoldā, reminds me of spacecraft
Yeah I am guessing your noise was coming from the failing pickup.
Shielding is kind of a placebo in ways as well as no matter how well an instrument is shielded, those pickups are still hanging out the front and picking up EMF/RF interference directly. And even humbuckers are never perfectly matched, so some noise can get through.
IME noise is almost always attributable to the environment more than the bass, and the pickups are the prime contributors on the bass, vastly more than the other electronics.
But it does look very cool
Worthyā¦
Hi @vtbassmatt ! How would you rate your bass improval with the course. By now Iāve completed a few lessons and I must say that Iām feeling quite good.
I definitely improved a lot, though itās kind of hard to rate or put numbers to it. But for one example, Billie Jean (in module 4) was basically impossible for me even at slow speed when I came through the first time. By module 8 or 9, I could play BJ at medium. And at the very end, I did a passable impression of full speed. I highly recommend it - if nothing else, it had me excited to practice every day.
