Ooh, I like the Ibanez! I have a pink EHB1000S, the thing rocks
I just saw Steve Harris play one last night!
First off on Show Us Your Basses 1. There was someone who posted a Peavey Grind 5 string bass. I wanted to leave a response to his post. I had that exact same bass. It was the most expensive thing Iâve ever bought. (Besides a truck!!!) I paid $350 for it at the exact same pawn shop. That Iâve always dealt with, and got a lot of gear from Cash America pawn shopâŚ
Hereâs my Peavey Grind 5 string bass. With my first Fender Rumble 100 and a Behringer Ultratone K1800FX.
That is a painful picture to look at? My brother Eric got one helluva deal when he bought my Grind. Plus my Behringer K1800 quit working. Barney Rumble 100. I bought a vintage Kent short scale bass for $50 from some kid on Marketplace. Just because I was bored and was interested in what it took to actually sell something on marketplace. A few weeks later I receive a message on messenger. I was asked if I would be interested in trading my $50 Kent short scale bass for a bass amp. I asked about the amp. Then told him to bring over to me. I fell in love with Barney Rumble. Then a bunch of stupid folks started hanging around. Anyway my brother used it one time. Then calling me about buying it. Longer story much shorter!!! I paid $50 for the bass. Then traded it for a V1 Fender Rumble 100. Lastly I sold it to my brother for $200!
These are my three Harley Benton MV-4MSB.
The one on the left is the modded Pinkâs Hot (for sofa playing), the one on the right is the modded Ronin (for playing in the park and on the road) ⌠and the new one in the center, that I got veeeeeeerrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy cheaply, is the almost new Minty-minty-mint (cause of the colour and that old Dutch advertisement below), which I will make active and mod to a fretless. Oh yeah, itâs ugly
Iâm very happy
Minty-minty-mint:
EDIT just played it. Interesting to play a setup of somebody else.
- the bass is spotless. Really like new!
- Action height is much higher than I am used too. Easy to solve!
- My modded basses with EMG GZR or DiMarzio pickups and high mass bridge sound much more grown up. The stock parts sound a little thin, metallic and hollow.
- the new .105" strings are so much better than .100" stock strings.
- I hear a slight humming from the electronics. I shielded the other basses and the new PUs are hum-free. But itâs interesting to hear what it sounds like on a stock bass. An absolute no go! This bass will become an active one
Great purchase ⌠now letâs take it apart!
Great looking bass!
Youâd be a great candidate to get a Squier mustang and compare to HB. Especially the Squier CV only offer in one pickup configuration itâs easy and cheaper to mod.
Iâd really curious how youâd like the Squier.
I tested one back in the Avocado bass days (remember, when you talked me out of this? ^^).
I was not convinced, sorry!
I found it klunky and chunky, if remember right.
Also, having the same discussion on zzzeee Zzzerrramn bass website, everybody told me to ONLY get a bass that (also) has a bridge pickup, as neck pickups are not so good for fretless.
Apparently, neck pickups in fretless are missing the âmwahâ, whatever the âmwahâ is. Nobody could explain it. Everybody says itâs key to playing fretless.
So, now that I know that the âmwahâ exists, I want to have it!
By the way -I just realized: if you hadnât talked me out of the Avocado bass, I would never have started modding!
Just sayingâŚ
itâs that whole resonant-y bow-like cello-y thing, more mwaaaahhhhhhh than mwah (which is a chefs kiss)
Please please please post a sample of a (well known) song!
It drives me crazy, NOT to know what âmwahâ is and to WANT it anyway. So desperately!
that whatever 80s song by pino
btw youâre kinda an advertiserâs dream arenât you
Am I? Explain?
But first: explain the âMwahâ - pretty please!
Is it what I hear in this?
(Sorry for the song)
I dont think Iâve posted this yet but this has been my go to for the past 6 months or so. I have not been GASing for basses since getting my Player Plus PJ
Thatâs a really nice looking bass!
it just cracked me up, the I donât know what this is but Iâll take two please attitude. I do this a lot
yeah thatâs what I always considered it anyways. btw I do believe that sound has a ton to do with your technique and little to do with pickup placement according to fretless guys.
I did. For you already.
How about this one with P and J both sound just as awesome on Fretless.
I like this one too the notes sounded different than the other 5 string
This is potentially what your short scale could sound like
Same dude playing stingray Fretless and then P bass Fretless still awesome tone. Love Pino.
