I have mix active and passive basses and sometimes you just need 30% more juices to make it about even in power. I like the booster pedal as it works better with just a click. And I could treat all of my bass volume knob the same on almost every basses.
Harder to drive passive pickup usually have great tone I don’t mind boosting the signal via pedal than the volume knob on the amp. This is what I use.
That said for fretless I really love my dual bass station. The variable mid really bring out the fretless awesome tone. It’s also feature super flat booster as well.
Make sure you mind the size though and measure twice as there were limited option for the 6-string that fit and I decided the stock were fine for how little it’s played.
I like this. That may get on the action item list. For the moment, I’m justrunning it through my compressor with all the knobs at detente and adding some gain to get the volume increase. That seems to about cover the difference.
Busy day but finally got to unpack this. Haven’t plugged it in yet. Tired. For tomorrow.
The official neck through punisher originally sold through Spencer Gifts. Came with cert of authenticity and a very nice HSC with Gene logo.
It’s actually a very very cool bass to hold in your hands. Love the shape. It’s in great shape. Autograph is still in excellent shape. A boyhood dream in a box.
More pics.

Cool emblem on the case. Needs a proper setup, guy before me was second owner. He never played it.
Ya I made a post about how you have to remove the volume pot to get the battery out but then found that the glue isn’t actually glued and the metal clip popped right out. The glue glob acts as a nice hold-in-placer.
I wonder how many people hang these and one day battery acid is gonna scree them all up cause they don’t realize there’s a batter in there. This one had what looked to be an original battery.
