and a Leather Vorson SP-DJ 09J95 (Black) that my best friend gave me for my birthday 3 years ago. I really love this one, and I use ernie ball straplocks on both. Especially on the Ibanez they are very needed, because the leather at the end is very malleable and your instrument CAN fall off.
When I got my StingRay Special, I did not really want to put strap locks on it. I wanted to keep it as it came from the factory. I have been using Levy’s straps and find the 4.5" and the split 3 inch (?) to be great but wanted a little more security than the Levy with the stock strap buttons would offer. Andy Rice at Sweetwater suggested the Ernie Ball padded 3" strap with the strap locks built in. I will say this, if I had known about this strap a while ago I would have used them exclusively. They are well padded, lock in tight, and are cheap! If you don’t want to spend the big money on more expensive straps and locks, then give them a try.
When Joe sent me the bass he included a bunch of rubber washers. Unlike others I had tried, these stretch easily over the buttons. I may convert some of my basses back to the original configuration.
I have a couple of those straps and really like them for the price. They are comfortable, travel well, and quick and easy to put on or take off. A lot of times I am using them on basses that I have the Schaller buttons installed, but I don’t want to take my normal strap because it doesn’t fit well in the case.
Slightly padded D’Addario/Planet Waves strap, with their auto locks built in, and the Levy’s suede one (that’s supposed to be 3" but actually closer to 2.75" ), that’s so nice! with schaller strap locks
I tend to prefer minimalist design with black/gray colored straps since I usually grow bored very fast with drawings/patterns and/or anything fancier.
Lekato : quite confortable but I ended up hating both the logo and the quality, since it’s a bit cheap.
Proteknika : ultra lightweight. So much that I’m concerned about the durability. Very confortable and for some reason, love the logo, but really, not too sure how long this is gonna hold ^^´
Ibanez workshop : my favorite at the moment. This strap is the perfect middle-ground from the others. Not as cheap as the Lekato, almost as lightweight as the Proteknika.
All of them are around 25€, so … there’s that. If I was to invest a bit more, Couch straps or the Mono Betty seems quite interesting to me.
LOL, I was just coming here to post this as a cheaper alternative to some of the name brands. On sale now for $25 CAD. I got it for my new acoustic and it’s great! I was hoping it would be a bit more grippy on the padded side to help with neck-dive but it is just microfiber. I’ve only had it for a week so still under review but so far it’s holding up.
Yes, aliexpress was way too long for me since the Lekato was needed as a replacement.
Note that the proteknica is also on aliexpress (not sure about the price but I think that wasn’t that much interesting because of a delivery fee).
Replica Marcus Miller custom strap for the Marcus Miller signature Fender. The original guy who made it for Marcus is retired. This guy at Longhorn is semi-retired. A brand called Killer straps also makes one. Cool in both directions (Marcus flips his too).
