As with styles of beer, acquired tastes happen. Or not.
Okay, I’ve been GASing for a 5-string lately and nearly bought a used Daniel Firth signature Hellraiser Extreme partially because of the name of it’s color: “Cthulhu Burst”.
(Unfortunately there was a problem with it’s preamp, and I don’t want a project bass so I had to pass).
That’s a sweet bass! And odd controls. From what I see on Schecter’s site, it looks like they combined the Fishman factory controls with an EMG EQ. It’d be interesting to see how they wired that.
That’s part of the reason I passed. It’s an unusual configuration and anything more than changing the battery is probably beyond my ability to fix, and the discount wasn’t big enough for me to bother with sending it out for repair. Too bad, it was otherwise an incredible instrument (and still on my 5-string short list).
Understandable. If you knew exactly what the problem was you could at least research ahead of time what you’d be getting into and if you wanted to tackle it or not. But neither part of that control system are cheap and just throwing extra money at it without being able to pinpoint could add up pretty quick at retail prices.

OK now that’s a beautiful bass. I’ll add this for protection
