Sire M5 4 strings

Well, I did

Just bought a new Sire M5, 4 strings… while still practicing and learning with my old Squier Jazz (Korea, 1989).

What should I expect in terms of differences between the two?

First thing I hope is the new found inspiration, going from traditional mainstream body shape to a more contemporary shape can give you different vibe and inspire you to attack the song differently.

Sonically, you’ll find that the M5 would offer a Sh!t ton more of tonal options it can be both passive and active, single coil or humbucker, and series and parallel. Without touching tone control or Active preamp those 3 would give you months if not years to explore.

Then you get the Active pre which offers 4 band EQ Bass/ Mid-Mid sweep/treble. Well you are going to have a lot of fun exploring the capabilities.

Congrats!

My idea is that I would like to continue heavily practicing and learning mainly on the Squier Jazz (I’m still far from a decent player…), and more and more get in touch with the new “modern” one to experiment stuff that I never tried. The current problem is where to hide the new bass in order to avoid my wife to have a nervous breakdown or (very likely) to throw me and my 2 basses in the street

Well there are a few tricks but if you only have 2 basses it’s going to be hard because you just double the number, :joy:

If you have a few already just build a shed

This^^^ :100:

I have a Sire M5 and it is everything @Al1885 listed, and more.

It is lightweight. It’s very comfortable to hold (whether standing or seated). It has a 38mm nut, slim neck profile and a 12-inch radius fretboard, so it’s fast and easy to play. Plus, its Heritage-3 preamp and splittable pickups can provide a virtually limitless amount of tonal variety and options. Lastly, it sounds great.

Its visual design is without a doubt a stylistic departure from Fender norms, but its sonic capabilities can still emulate classic (P and Jazz) tones.

Well the real problem is that I have a space like the above, but there is currently one motorbike and all mech stuff there (and I’m preparing the space for… a second motorbike too). Don’t tell my wife, again

Yes the main reason for my choice is that I want to try something different, while still appreciating the solid Fender style of the JB (never tried the Precision, yet). I mean in playability, but also about the style. I chose the Natural colour (the blue one was nice too, but there was a discount on the online store on the one I chose).

I chose the natural finish because I dig the look of the Swamp Ash body.
