Slap bass question

I saw this quote in an ebook. “Now you might be wondering if slap bass has a place in contemporary worship. The answer is no. Do not slap.” Any thoughts as to why?

If you’re involved in contemporary worship then, more than likely, you’re familiar with Andrew Gouche. Even if by some circumstance you haven’t heard of him then having access to an ebook means you likely have access to the internet. From gospel standout to Chaka Khan, slap is a big part of his game, as it is with a lot of contemporary worship. I don’t tell anyone how to live their lives, but if I could offer an opinion, avoid generalizations. If you choose to, get your slap on.

Also, slap is a big, loud, bass-forward sound.
If it is used with experience and taste, it’s great.
If not, it’s aweful.

Whoever gave that quote was giving “best practices” advice. Like, if you’re not sure or not confident in the slap you’re thinking to throw in… don’t do it.
Wise, but not gospel.

I might be wrong, and feel free to share your opinions here.
But when I hear this discussed in a serious, professional way (not joking), worship is often considered a different musical style from gospel.
Gospel tends to feature slap playing, active basses with lower action, a bright tone, and a strong groove approach — players like Andrew Gouché, Sharay Reed, Justin Raines, etc.
Worship, on the other hand, is more connected to a pop/rock style. Because of that, you often hear Precision-style basses, more effects like octave, fuzz, and drive.
Bands like Bethel, Hillsong, and similar.
In this context, slap doesn’t usually fit as well, giving more space to smooth playing and the use of a pick.

“If thou is banished from thy slap bass, then thou shall seeketh a different domicile of worship”

Mowac 2 : 12

(technically not a religion policy violation)

I see what you did there…
