Quick question here- is Flea slapping or popping on the A string in By The Way?
I’m learning the song on Yousician but the app never tells me what techniques to use. I naturally went to use pop because it’s easier, although on the A string it just sounds sort of flabby.

Most of the time with Flea it’s more like slopping. Sorry, bad joke. Couldn’t resist.

I’m not that fond of RHCP so I can’t really help you out on that one, but it might be useful to search through live videos of the song. You might just get lucky and find a closeup at the right moment.
