Song 1 - "Another Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd

Great job! Nice tone. Tuning and articulation good, and you looked like you had a great time! What’s not to love?

Thanks! Yeah, I’m having a great time working out the songs and recording them with my son. I’ve leveling up my skills and spending quality time with him at the same time.

Hey everyone

I’m currently on Module 8 and decided to jump into the challenge.

honestly thought this song would be a breeze, but I found it surprisingly hard to really lock into the groove with the drums. This is my 4th take, and it still feels to me like I’m playing around the drums instead of sitting " in the pocket".

But I figured I’d better give it a shot, hoping it’s not as bad as I think it is.

I’d love to hear your feedback. (By the way, I lost my place in the notation right around the guitar solo, so I just cut the track there). Thanks!

P.S 2. No video this time around, I had some recording issues with my camera and I’m working with an improvised recording setup at the moment..

Hey there - same! I’ve listened to this song most of my life and I thought it would be simple.

Welcome to the challenge! You have a great tone and you did good to get that low D in tune. My feedback would be to pay attention to note length. The Gs before the slide could be a little longer. The low D before the repeat should be cut short. It’s the little details that make this song a tad more difficult than it seems at first.

Great job! Now on to the next one!! :slightly_smiling_face:

Congrats on your first cover!

Overall just fantastic!

A few minor minor note lengths and some liberties taken on some of those long sustained notes but hey, that’s art.

Technically, very good, a couple blips on note length, and I think overall your timing and groove were great.

Not sure what heppend at the end, but you stopped short.

PS the first rule of 50 Song Challenge Club is to not point out your flaws.

Well done Ronco! I can’t add anymore to what was already mentioned. Great job, looking forward to the next one.

@Ronco great job.. working on this myself, and know the score is confusing, I struggle to keep up and count to 7..

Thanks! I’m on it.

Looking at the list though, seeing “Hysteria” waiting at the end… If I’m actually able to play that eventually, I’m going to send Josh more money

Noted on the rule! :zipper_mouth_face: Thanks for the feedback!

my notation page fell down.. Even though it’s just the same notes repeating, I was so stressed about the recording that my brain just froze and I couldn’t play without looking at the sheet… so I just decided to cut the track right there.

Great tone!

Overall quite good, watch note length, you were short on some and longer on others. Timing overall pretty good - a couple blips but that is expected at this point. Coming off the slides timing is very off - perhaps artistic choice, if so, ignore, however, if you are trying to ‘learn the song’ then take note.

ONe suggestion, I would try dropping your strap just a wee bit to get that right hand/arm less cramped up.

FYI - not Zeppelin, Floyd

yes lets call it artistic choise  I just could not get it to sound good as written to be honest, think my slide was to slow maby ?

and pink floyd and zeppelin are not the same thing ??? lol sorry about that one, fixed at youtube

I never really listen to this stuff before, so not familiar with the material

Took a stab at this one on a rainy day, listening to it afterwards I feel like I’m rushing a couple of times and also got lost at the end. That bass line still blows my mind and I might get addicted to hitting that low D. As always, feedback welcome!

Since you said feedback is welcome … yeah you’re not wrong.

For me there are two things that cause that. One is when I’m spending too much brain power thinking about hitting the next note. It makes me sort of jump the gun and lose the timing.

The other is when I’m not internalizing the beat. I play way better, in terms of timing, if I’m tapping my foot, or bobbing my head, or swaying, or doing anything to physically keep track of it. When one part of your body is nailing the 1-2-3-4, it’s easier for your fingers to sync up with that. More so than just hearing the drummer doing it.

That all said, you’re doing a bunch of stuff right too. Your tone is good, you’ve got generally clean fretting (a tiny bit of rattle with your pinky, that will fix itself the more you use it), and overall good attention to note length and muting.

You’re on the right track for sure. Keep it up!

Thanks so much for listening and for the feedback @CrayWolf . I did notice the pinky rattle as well:sweat_smile:

Overall quite good. Good news is your hitting the beat on the one, which is the most important place to be in time. A couple passing notes were a bit rushed but this is just getting comfortable playing is all.

And a bit of rushing at the end repeating the same line over and over - this is also common. Simple bass lines can hang you up very quickly.

Great job keep going you are on your way!

how do I get the the TAB please?

Hey there. Assuming you’ve purchased the course, you can find them in the Course Extras section.

Look for the 100 First Songs.

Hey all,

I’m having trouble working out the slide part, since you slide from and end up back at the 5th fret, albeit on a different string.

How is it meant to be done, or what have you guys found sounds the best?
