Fair enough. I’ll mix it down for future vids.
How do I upload a video? It won’t allow me to upload an MP4 file, do I need to save in another format?
The easiest thing is to upload to youtube. If you’ve never done it before that might seem daunting, but it’s pretty simple. Make an account if you haven’t already and click the “Create +” in the top right on YT. Then you can upload the video, don’t need to worry about all Youtube’s options. Eventually there will be a link you can copy and post here.
You might get some notifications about it being flagged for a copyright violation, but that usually just means it is being blocked in Russia. There are certain bands you won’t be able to upload for copyright reasons though (ACDC, Beatles, Prince for example)
Thanks for the info Mmatt.
Here’s my attempt at Pink Floyd’s - Another Brick in the Wall Part 2. Any feedback would be welcome
Here is my cover of The Wall. No where near 100% perfect but im still happy with it. I I have had the best six weeks so far learning the bass. One day i’ll go back and re-record these early songs, but ill always keep these as they show how far I have come and also how far I have to go.
Hi @Mktony32 - you have quite a few things going on here which, if you rewatch and work on, will suit you well.
- note length - in many cases is very off, review the tab, your recording and the original.
- timing - also off throughout in some cases - timing is your #1 goal in bass playing - better to play the wrong note than the right note at the wrong time.
- either your E string is out of tune or you missed the tuning of this song DADG, which some do and is more likely.
Keep at it and keep working on it. Remember - not too long ago you couldn’t even tune a bass!
Thank you . Hopefully, I will get better. I just really enjoy learning the songs. Mistakes and all.
That’s the journey… Keep at it!
Thank you so much everyone. This community is so welcoming and supportive.
looking back over the music I see where I was going wrong with my note length . I stupidly read the dot to the side of the note as a short note I cant remember the name but usually under the note. well I think I have this right? I also made the silly mistake of following some one on YouTube rather than trying to do it correctly. lesson learnt
The dot NEXT to a note means to add half of the note’s value to the note.
The dot UNDER (or OVER, depending on where on the staff) is the indication to play it staccato - which is Italian for ‘detached’ - or short, like you played.
I realise that now. And if it hadn’t been for your advise I would not have gone and looked at it again. A silly mistake but at least I found out why so it shows the course is working . Thank you
Some years later, here is my version with some errors.
The guitar solo section, I don’t know why, but for me it was the most difficult part.
Maintaining the tempo and repeating all the bars in order… I had to stay very focused on what I was playing.
Well done Kaiser Soze! Great tone on this.
Yeah really nice tone, you sound great!
Solid timing too, you just lost focus at the end there but it’s no big deal.
Here’s my first bass cover.
A few mistakes… and my first recording lessons!
Well done @Talva !
Welcome to the challenge and to covers! Enjoy the ride.
Great tone here!
Overall very well played, some very minor note length bits (short) and slight timing misses but overall great great great.
Cool bass too, keep ‘em coming.
Thanks so much for your feedback!
I’ll try to pay attention to all of that for the next one (I’m finishing module 6 and then I’ll tackle it!). I’ll be a bit more used to recording myself, filming myself, etc… Not so easy!
I’ve never been conventional, so it’s no surprise that I didn’t start in order. ![]()
Here’s song #1 from the list and I got a chance to wear some of my PF attire!
