Song 12 - "All Star" by Smashmouth

nice job @Barney

some note length issues (full disclosure my instructor guy is beating tempo markings in my head right now, using Modern Reading Text in 4/4 by Bellson, really helping btw, so I am noticing these things)

In the verses, its eigth/quarter. I am struggling keeping that quarter note going longer than the eigth, my brain wants to do it the other way. You hit it this way some of the time, but not all. Some stumbles in chorus note length as well.
Reharmonized verse - there are no rests, notes should flow smoothly vs. rests in between

I think Josh’s idea in including this song is to be wary of the note lengths and tempo of the parts.
Overall great tone and good job indeed!

Here’s my go.
I didn’t have kids in the Shrek era (my nightmare would be Let It Go) so this wasn’t painful.
Fun song, I did forget the eigth-quarter bits here and there, brain just wants it to be the other way.

Finally taking the Dargie for a spin, bridge pickup only.
I played with the DG B7K eq a bit, bass up, treble down, mids down a bit to tame the brightness of the stings.
Also played with the DG Hyperluminal Compressor to help even out my inconsistent plucking on the rounds (gasp @PamPurrs).
Surprisingly I used the “KGB-800” amp sim on the Studio 40 on this one, mainly because when I was setting tone I forgot to go direct, but liked what it brought to the party.
I really dug the resulting tone from all that mess.

Here is my effort on this one. I felt a couple of speed wobbles in parts of the chorus! I’m enjoying learning these songs and can see how they are building on each other. Anyhoo, feedback welcome! Cheers

Hey @Bassdacious you did an awesome job. You look very relaxed and comfortable, which is vital. I only noticed a couple (very minor) timing issues in a few places, but nothing that could ruin your cover. Nice work!!!

P.S. is that a banjo I see behind you?

That was awesome @Bassdacious
Outstanding tone.
Well done

Saw the cat, you’re a set of pajamas away from giving Lobster a run for his money.

Thanks @PamPurrs - it’s a Banjolele, which surprisingly sounds quite good. In better times (COVID permitting) I go along to a Uke Group.

LOL. Thanks @John_E. I have been known to practice in my tartan PJ’s - if I ever get to the point where I play half as good as Lobster, I’ll be wrapped. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

alright, I’m not out yet, I’ve just been busy… also I started messing with recording, so this is my first “proper” recording using the Scarlett Focusrite with Reaper, then added the pic on Movavi to put it on the tube, thanks to @PamPurrs and @John_E for all the help!!!
This was fun to do, there’s a bunch of poking and trying that I need to do in order to get familiar with the softwares but I was very surprised at how different it sounds from my previous iPhone recordings, this sounds like an actual song, that the bass (my bass :sunglasses: ) belongs in there… I made three copies of the audio with what I felt were High - Neutral - Low bass in volume and this is the neutral, I could have practice the song more but again I was distracted by the whole process… but it turned out decent :+1:

Sounds GREAT @Reo
Great tone indeed!
I think the mix is perfect too.

Glad our session helped.
@PamPurrs and I are still intending to do the video half, just life getting in the way…coming soon.

Sounded really good to me overall.

Soon as in, most likely after the holidays. Meanwhile, ask Santa for lots of gift cards so you can afford all the gear we’re going to recommend

This was the go-to frat party song in college…used to change lyrics to ‘you’re a porn star; get laid.’

Greetings all. So it finally happened, I made it to a song I don’t like, and you’d never know it by the way I dance around while playing it. Wait, do I actually like this song? Decide for yourselves

Well done again @dlamson13
Great tone, timing and dancing around.
Pretty much perfecto.
If I looked away I couldn’t tell I wasn’t listening to the original.
(and ya, didn’t dig this one either)
