Between the Eb and the G7 notes there is a slur mark. My understanding is that means no gap between the two notes. But those notes are 8 frets apart so how is that achieved?

If I’m looking at the right thing (the measure leading into Chorus 1), that’s a slide from the Bb to the G… (The “Eb”/“G7” markers indicates the chords - the bass is playing an Bb during the Eb chord which would be the 5th relative to Eb). Play the Bb on beat 4, then, during the time between beat 4 and the next beat 1, slide down to the G and play that on beat 1.

I’m not used to seeing a “curved” slide indicator, but that’s how I interpret it… Hope this helps.

Thanks, that does help. I initially interpreted it as a slide but then doubted myself because

  1. it looks like a slur symbol
  2. it is not connected to the next note.

By the way, that does look like an Eb to me, 13th fret of the D string, with a “b” at the beginning of the measure. Now I have to work on slides with my pinky.

Thanks again!

D’oh! You’re right! I mis-read it. My bad… I should’ve caught myself since a Bb isn’t 8 frets above a G, but, big oopsie. Good catch.

I agree that the slide symbol doesn’t seem exactly “standard” to me, but I still interpret it that way…

And I think a slur indicator would be over the notes, not between them.

So I just recorded and uploaded song 19. I went to the list to see what was next and as I listened I thought “I could play this right now”. So I did.

This recording is the first time I played this song the whole way through.

That’s a good feeling, grats on the progress!

Great job! A study in ‘don’t get bored and still keep the timing’ is the lesson here.

Some super super tiny timing blips but overall amaazing job.

Thanks, yeah I would have re-recorded because I lost the groove at one point but I liked the idea of just posting my first take so I decided to push through.

Here’s my version of song #20 - Gimme Some Lovin’.

Spencer Davis Group - Gimme Some Lovin’ (Bass cover)

This is my second take. I didn’t like the tone with DTBs on my affinity PJ I got from the first take, so I played it again on my Ray4.

Maybe my ears are changing again - everything sounds better with rounds right now.

I found that rounds started appealing to me once I could mute better as they give you more tonal qualities to play with.

Great job here!

Thank you. It’s surprising to me how much my ears have changed over the past few months. Tones I used to strive for are now a bit dull, and what I thought was annoying in the past is now pleasing to my ears. lol

I’m continuously experimenting with plucking pressure, location, etc. and I’ve recently started to experiment with a pick.

This sure is a fun hobby!

@Professor very nice, man you are inspiring me, been slacking on learning songs in last few days, focusing on learning the pick, but darn I need to get back to it..

Thank you! I think we all help everyone here. @THRILLHO inspires me to keep moving towards completing the 50 songs challenge.

You, @John_E , @JerryP , @JohnF and many others all inspire me with feedback and/or encouragement. It’s a really cool place.

Very well done, Professor!

Nice one, Professor! Someone on BB was asking how to increase pinky strength and I told them, “go play Gimme Some Lovin”…

Thanks! It’s a workout, for sure! I remember having to spend a little extra time on this one when I took the course the first time around. It’s cool to look back and realize the progress I’ve made in the last year.
