Spaghetti Western tone

Honestly, my favourite JHS video so far: JHS - Spaghetti Western tone

It could belong to the gear section, but with just with the humble B1four you can get pretty close.
OFC with an oil can delay it would sound better (cfr. video…) :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

This is also the best reason to own a Bass VI, but again, whatever: a baritone guitar, an octaver pedal… the spaghetti western tone/vibe is incredibly cool and so much fun to play around with. It is not about gear (yet)

I’ll watch this later with my B1zoom and bass VI :sunglasses: :cowboy_hat_face:

On the VI, I’d start off on the 1st and 3rd pickup with that 4th switch (can’t remember what it does atm) down to make it sound a little thinner / guitarish.

Is there a real difference from Surf? Can’t watch a Josh (the other Josh) video at the moment but will later.

To me at least, I think it needs to be twangier (if that’s a word) than surf. With surf, I think you need to dial in that delay a bit more so it doesn’t sound sloppy at speed.

I haven’t finished the video yet, but I like it.
Some thoughts:

  • I found a Spaghetti Western patch a while back, on Tonelib which I can share if someone wants it.
  • For me the spaghetti western sound is really captured by raking up the strings (1-6) slowly, with a pick near the bridge on an Em.
  • I want that Danelectro.
