- Select “Topics” in the upper left
- Select “New” as a Category in the middle
- Select “Dismiss all New” in the upper right

Almost feel like @JoshFossgreen should temporarily suspend new forum accounts.
Another option, if Discuss can handle ML-based classifiers, would be to hold any post in the Indonesian language in moderation.
This all seems to be a single spamlord.

I wish people would have to use CAPTCHA or something like that when creating an account. There are also other ways to keep AI bots out of forums.

Oh sh*t, only now I saw the extent of the spam flood the forum has had over the last 12 hours. This is getting worse and worse. These must be spam bots used by AI agents, and they don’t even know what or where they are spamming, it just goes everywhere, whenever an unprotected forum is found.
This is going to get a lot worse, so I hope @JoshFossgreen can arrange a solution.

Stopping spam is a systemic forum issue, @JoshFossgreen.
We users can squash each individually, but that’s like stomping a single cockroach while the house remains infested.

our AI owerlords are comming… only question is, will thay keep us as slaves or just get rid of most of us, just keeping a few to maintain there systems ?

Something that may help is just flagging them and not replying. The replies of people saying they flagged it are likely seen as “interaction” from the spam bots, which encourages them to post more.
I believe it also changes how many flags it takes fornthe forum software to hide it. A bunch of flags with no replies get systematically hidden with fewer flags than something with flags and some replies.

Being dyslexic, CAPTCHA usually defeats me. I have the hardest time trying to figure out what the letters are let alone typing them out correctly. There are other technologies that are better for people like me. Like the I am not a robot checkbox, which works by tracking the mouse movement.

Hey all! Yeah I’ve noticed the flood too - we should be able to shore it up at the source somehow, working on it!
FYI the forum software uses Askimet to pre-filter stuff, but clearly it’s not doing its job adequately lately!

The ‘crawler’ may see the word { Indonesian } in a discussion and ‘think’, “Ok, here’s the target!”

Id like to know why the admins are not banning the people who spam? I have an individual that is following me and i have not found a way to block that person?

Oh I am sure they are; but these are stooge accounts made over VPNs by spam companies, not individuals.
Banning IP addresses or ranges doesn’t work; banning regions doesn’t work; requiring credit card registration used to work but there’s so many stolen card databases now it doesn’t work any more; there’s a reason everyone uses services like Akismet for stuff like this, it’s hard.

There are options in your profile preferences to mute or ignore a user. Blocking is however not possible.
If you mute them, it will hide their posts.

I have seen the same kind of thing. Profiles that start following several accounts, within minutes after being created. Those often don’t participate in the forum, just keep silently stalking. Sometimes I even hid my public profile to prevent people from stalking me. It is unfortunate that we cannot block them from seeing our messages.
