Speaking of pet pictures

lol a combined 36 lbs of orange sounds adorable and absolutely chaotic. When I found Max I had a Maine Coon so nicknamed them “Big Bubba” and “Little Bit” and I am convinced the surest way to end up with a behemoth of a cat is to call them little when they are kitten. I think it just encourages them

I know a lot of you are familiar with my Amazon parrot Sheba, and this is Kelsey, our Goffin’s cockatoo that we adopted back in April.

We’re looking at getting another Schnauzer in the spring (standard instead of mini this time) to complete our little wolf pack. My wife won’t let me get a giant.

That’s a shame. A college friend of mine, “Dibs”, the goalie on the UW-Madison hockey team in the mid-70s, lived in a huge farmhouse south of the Coliseum during his senior year. With that much space, he adopted a giant. Dibs had this naming procedure where he’d wait until a dog displayed some unique character trait and then name it after that. During one visit, I asked him if he’d chosen a name yet. He said “watch this”, poured out a bowl of food and then yelled “lunch!”. The giant ran into the huge tile-floored kitchen, spread all 4 legs and slid on his belly into the bowl mouth first and inhaled the contents. Dib’s named him “Hoover”.

In all fairness, I’m pushing 50 and I love my boys but Schnauzer puppies are velociraptors until somewhere between 3 and 4 years old (Gus, the white mini is 3.5 and just starting to settle a little). Giants aren’t any different as far as personality and go through the same velociraptor phase as the minis. Just as bouncy and springy… just 5 times the size.

My best friend in back in highschool had a giant schnauzer/great dane mix named Beelzebub who had a shaggy harlequin coat. He was the absolute best. Incredibly chill dog who had no idea he was the size of a small horse. Used to ride around with him sitting in the backseat of our 1973 VW bugs (she had a yellow one and I had a red one). Got all kinds of stares

Definitely made me soft for both danes and schnauzers.

All Schnauzers are chill… as long you meet their needs. I walk my boys 2 - 4 miles a day, we have a half hour of playtime after dinner every night, then random pets and scratches through the day. They can get a reputation for mischief, and I’d bet money those folks were expecting set and forget dogs who are just happy to be in the room with you. They need to be challenged (playtime) and they need a job (walking and peeing on stuff).
