State of Metal today

To add on to this, those game changers are still happening, but they are changing things away from the scene that built on from Joy Division (since that’s the example that was used). We’re not young anymore, they aren’t changing for us, they are changing away from us.

I remember to have read an article about the song “Barbie Girl”, as a subversive empowerment metaphor for feminism and against misogyny. I’ll try to find it and will post it here. It was an interesting read.

With the things I learned here in this thread, I assume that there must be a whole scene behind the band Aqua that I missed out. Were they the Joy Division of their time?

For those who can’t remember (or weren’t there):

I wished that Aqua had made a song with some growling. Would we say that they were the new Metal pioneers? A role model for Poppy even?
