A friend of mine uses this kind of setup, direct to the amp. Anyone else tried this?
I haven’t seen the setup personally but he said that’s all he needs for the gig. Steamdeck + interface direct to the amp.
@howard I think I saw your post about plugins, so I guess you might have an idea about this? LOL.
I would personally just use a laptop but the method (going in through an audio interface, effects and EQ in software, and out from the interface to the amp) is completely valid.
If you can get all the software and plug-ins you need onto that platform/OS, then sure, I guess. Otherwise, a laptop and, e.g., MainStage might be more flexible.
@howard Sounds about right! Considering the price I’d rather go for a laptop for flexibility and can be used for other things too.
I found another setup in a facebook page, here’s a link to his youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywZuoncGDJs&t=513s&ab_channel=UncleLhix
I already have that type of PC. What DAW would you prefer for this kind of setup? Also for the interface, is Presonus a good cheap device to start with?
I agree!
That Steamdeck seems to be running Windows 11, it looks like.
I see you also have a thread about the Zoom B1 Four, so if you are looking into a multi effect pedal AND want to get an audio interface, maybe take a look at the Boss GT-1000CORE, it can be used as multi effect pedal AND audio interface, baked into one (Though I think the B2 Four can do that, too).
That setup is pretty cool. Looks like he is using a USB interfaced footswitch to trigger changes in the DAW?
For DAW it depends on how much you want to do with it live. Do you want synths and vocal effects too? Or just for your bass? Do you want to record or just control? If it is purely for bass effects and amp/cab sim, then you might be able to get away with just something like Amplitube 5. For more I would have a dedicated laptop running Reaper or Ableton Live (or Logic Pro on a Mac).
Presonus will be fine for the audio interface.
I think all of the current generation ones can.
Only you wouldn’t need to run the entirety of Logic, but could suffice with MainStage
Yep yep
