I have recently started trying to add tapping into my playing/practice. My question is what is the best string height? Low, medium, or high. I realize with high you will need to push down harder on the string. Seems to me low would be (best), less effort pressing on the string, but I am new to tapping and there might be something I am missing.

Tapping string height for me is - the lower the better.
Medium is OK and can be a little bit cleaner sounding (less resonance between the nut and the tapped note), but high action is a killer.
Tapping requires a very clean and firm and precise attack for it to work well.
And the low action allows you to focus on technique without having to worry about crushing each note with massive levels of force.
Best of luck!

When I started I prefer medium low. A little more height helps with tapping strokes. It helps with exaggerated right hand motion as I got better I automatically need lower action for better and faster playing as my fingers has more accuracy and hit the target every time.
