When my fingertip lifts up sometimes it drags across the winding of the string especially the A string. It creates that zip or scratchy noise as I lift or slide off. How do I prevent this?
Lift/ disengage the strings slowly and mute your string on the way up and move it to the next position.
I know there’s a lot of steps but soon it will be like breathing. Practice this super slow.
Al1885 pretty well said it all…
My two bits for just about any question of wonderment is always the same…
Add another 100 hours of practice to your resume and then see how old news your question has become.
How do you mute a string on the way up?
I remember playing Disco inferno and having huge muting troubles, more practice and it went away.
Keep going bass brother the answer is at your finger tips…
So many ways.
Don’t fret with your finger pads but finger tips.
You can do it with your floating right thumb
Your next fretting finger
Same finger but soft disengagement (think ghost notes)
Palm mute
Thanks.
@josh3, keep in mind that developing clean technique is the key to playing well.
But you can only achieve clean playing technique by learning it first. Otherwise, even a million hours of practicing something wrong will only amount to a lot of wasted time.
Here’s a video about how to mute strings so they don’t sound unexpectedly.
Thanks. The tip to lift the finger up slowly did the trick. I get the idea, not it’s just a matter of practice. Thanks for the video.
