Howard,
I want to change the strings on the TRBX604. Since you have had much experience with this model, what do recommend (rounds or flats)?

Jerry,
Pardon the interruption, but I couldn’t help but overhear your question.
Have you considered both?
I have D’Addario XL Half Rounds on my Sterling StingRay 4HH.
They are brighter than flats and smoother feeling than rounds.
Cheers,
Stev
They look interesting.
It just feels a bit off or requires a lot of breaking in time. I have that on 2 of my basses. When I wear gloves it would catches the gloves a bit.
The tone is as expected somewhere between flats and rounds. Tipping more toward rounds which I like. Like I mentioned if/ when you break in them strings I can imagine the awesomeness. I picture the poor man version of the TI Jazz flats.
Jerry, I gotta throw a plug in for GHS pressurewounds, since you brought it up. They lie firmly in between flats and rounds both sound and feel wise. You get the brighter sound of rounds (less bright than rounds) and the deeper thud of flats (less thuddy than flats). You can EQ them to bring them closer to whichever sound you’re going for. Very versatile and they’re like $30 so if you don’t like them, you can wind them up and keep them as spares if you need them. My only issue with them is that I wish the D and G strings sound a little thin. I have to be aware of where I’m playing them (neck vs bridge) more than other strings.
Thanks faydout!
I liked D’Addario NYXLs on it a lot, but you may prefer flats.
Thanks Howard.
I’ve got a set sitting on my desk @faydout ready to try on my P Bass. I’ve had GHS Precision flats on there for 3 years! But trying for a slightly brighter tone with the band / in the mix.
Let’s see if I can handle the feel of rounds
