Strings Reccomendation

Acquiring a Squier Jaguar (H) Bass. I like flat-wounds, especially tape-wounds; going to shorter (32") scale due to arthritis kicking in. Since 1967 have used , and currently use, mostly Fender Jazz bass. looking at D’Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Medium Gauge Bass Strings ($52.99) and D’Addario ECB81M Chromes Flat Wound Electric Bass Strings Light Medium Scale ($35.99). Any other experience/suggestions ?

My new Marco Marcústico fretless hollowbody bass came with the medium gauge ETB92 black nylon tapes. They’re obviously still new, but play and sound great. The Marcústico is a short scale bass, but uses the long scale strings due to the bridge design. Joaquin Marco, the luthier (and his team) who built it for me, has shipped them with different strings over time, but told me that it plays and sounds best with the ETB92 strings. So far, my experience proves him right. It took 280 days to build, but it was worth the wait. I don’t think you can go wrong with them. They should sound great on your new Jaguar.

If you’re interested, here’s my Marcústico.

Thanks, That’s where I’m leaning, have until May to decide, a bit high in my price range but I find flats last a long time and I like the “funk” they get !. My Squier took 8 hours to build !

Strings are one of the more subjective things. Chrome flats are pretty nice.

Right, and they’re not like cars, you can’t test-drive strings ! From experience, I like flats and prefer Tapewounds I use Fender on my 34" scale basses, going to 32" shortly -thanks

For shortscale strings I also use EB Cobalt Flats and TI, if you can afford them

I put D’Addario nylon on several of my basses. I like it. I also like the La Bella gold tapewound, I have all of the options in the series gold, white gold and copper gold, all are very good, although with higher string noise.

If you like funk style flats have you check out the Joe Dart set? I think it’s Ernie Ball 2805(long scale). @Whying_Dutchman posted the short scale version somewhere here. It’s very funky.

I’m a fan of the ecb81’s. I don’t have them on a medium scale but have them on both a short and regular scale and they are my favorite. I have a med scale jaguar H bass. It’s a great bass. The short scale ecb’s definitely won’t fit. I haven’t run across those ecb81’s in a medium scale. Probably gonna be my next purchase.

Thanks for the advice; I have these on the radar, but am holding out for something in tapewound if possible

will keep an eye on these, still looking for tapewound if possible – I play pretty mellow stuff and in a Praise Band

Thanks,I’ll keep looking appreciate the advice, I have the LaBella Tapewound, white on my Epi AGB 140 semihollow bass

The Ernie Ball 2808 is really something different, it stands out more than your normal strings. I can see why Joe Dart likes them. Although I swapped out the. On on my Dart ii to TI Jazz round but decided to keep them on my Sterling Joe Dart.
Here’s what the 2808 sounds like comparing to others.
