Hi there,
I just started module 4 and the first lesson talks about chugging.
What exactly does chugging mean? Is it just playing eight notes in a steady rhythm? Or is there more to it? This is probably a very naive question but I want to avoid misunderstanding basic concepts.
8th or 16th for long passages, quickly. Steady or in a âgalloping likeâ fashion ala Iron Maiden etc.
Itâs more about the repetitiveness over time and keeping consistent time.
Is this really considered âchuggingâ? I think of it more like a lot of U2 or AC/DCâs lines - steady 8th notes. Steady 16th I can see, but is something asymmetric like a Steve Harris gallop still considered âchuggingâ?
âPedallingâ as I know it is usually playing a sustained note underneath other stuff. For example Metallica - My Friend of Mysery is doing this, playing the open A underneath the other notes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrQiFncPvcg
