Sturgill Simpson disco album?

Sturgill Simpson is releasing a new album under his Johnny Blueskies alias. Mutiny After Midnight. This album he’s naming his band, The Dark Clouds. That’s not the only thing that’s different here. NO Digital release. Vinyl, cassette, and CD only. Seemingly taking a shot across the bow of the Spotify’s and Live Nation, and Ticket Master.

Like Sturgill or not, he keeps it interesting. This, supposedly has a disco and Motown feel focusing on groove, something we bass players can respect. I love that he constantly changes his style. The anime album was awesome and the 2 bluegrass albums were also really good. I already pre-ordered and hoping for a tour stop close by.

Sign me up!!! It did take me a while to warm up to Sturgill. But, once I did…I like everything he has done. Definitely will see that show too.

Of all the albums he’s released Dude and Juanita is probably my least favorite simply because you have to listen to it front to back for it to make sense. It’s still really good though.

I almost have boys in the band ready to put Long White Line on the setlist. The drummer can’t handle all the stops though. We as a society, may never fully understand how the underdeveloped brain of a drummer (dis)functions.
