Just saw where Coldplay is starting to offer this device for the hearing impaired at their shows. Pretty cool, it allows the user to “feel” the bass even if they can’t actually hear the music! Looks like it is designed to enhance the music listening experience, but now they are discovering that it can help others enjoy music at shows who otherwise would be limited to just the visuals.
That is one of the things I love about playing bass- just being able to actually feel the sounds you are creating. I will never forget the joy of being in a rehearsal room with other people and playing at a decent volume level for the first time, feeling the vibration that my fingers/strings/amp was creating was amazing. Guitars will always be cool, but feeling the bass in your body will always win. I think that internal vibration is what causes people to get tap their toes, bob their heads, and get up and dance!
thats extremely cool. i teach a huge number of deaf & HOH (hard of hearing) students at RIT - we have the second biggest deaf/HOH student population in the country after Gallaudet in DC.
point being i can see this being extremely awesome based on my experiences with these students.
My friend use one and he said it’s very addictive. When he plays without one it seems like something is missing. The one that Billy uses is call backbeat. When they put one on sales I’d grabbed it.
Producers of bass heavy music use these also so they can create and mix new songs at a reasonable sound level in the studio and still understand how the song will ‘feel’ when its played super loud on a system with multiple subs at a club
