Synth Pedals

Hello

What is everyone using for Synth Pedals. I’m jonesing on GAS for that MXR Synth Pedal which looks super fun to mess around with.

In the past I looked at a Meris Enzo but I didn’t think the tracking was great and it was also more geared to Guitar whereas the MXR is definitely designed with synth in mind

Anyone played one?

See, I considered that. I think the thing that I like about the MXR is that you don’t need to use it with a Computer. The C4 itself looks amazing though

I really wanted the MXR and was very disappointed i missed it during the Prime sale. I wound up getting the Zoom MS60B+ for about a 3rd of the non-discounted price, and am quite happy I did. It has 3 synthesizers. I didnt already have a bunch of other pedals, so I’m able to use the other effects along with it. It’s nice being able to add a delay or echo along with some reverb and compression to the synth for some wildly unique sounds.

That does look interesting. I think my issue with that is similar to the other one though in that you need a Computer to get the most use out of it. I really like the idea of being able to twiddle knobs and mess about

I also have the 60B+. You don’t need a computer, it has all kinds of preloaded effects. I generally use compression and preamp both of which work well. For 110 bucks you get a ton of options.

I haven’t hooked mine up to a computer yet. The 4 navigation buttons and the 4 infinite encoders that are also buttons make it very easy to operate without a computer. I’ll say that the knobs could have been moved to the top and been easier to use as I sometimes hit the shell with my fingers which interrupts the rotary operation. However, I can operate the navigation buttons with my foot, that didn’t even take much practice. The various presets are excellent starting points, and you can easily copy one patch to another. It’s very simple to add, delete, or even re-order effects too. I think it’d surprise you. I understand the mobile app is apple only, and I’m an android user… I never even really intended to connect it to a computer. Backlight is configurable. Altogether it’s a lot more than I expected, especially at the price point.

My thoughts on the Zooms, having owned a B3n and a B1:

The MS-60B+ is basically similar generation to the Zoom B3n and B1four, just in a different enclosure - which is its advantage, it’s like a regular pedal.

The MS-60B (no plus) is similar but for the previous generation (the B3).

The B2four and B6 are newer.

At least for my B3n, and while the computer wasn’t required, it definitely makes creating and editing patches much more pleasant. That said once you make a bunch of patches you don’t really need to edit them much, just tweak the knobs.

IMO about 80% of the factory patches are garbage. Some a good though, and the first one (IIRC) is a very usable SansAmp-like patch. The real strength of the devices is making your own patches out of the tons of effects it comes with.

Just when i thought i already had everything i don’t need…

If I’m going for a synth sound I’ll usually go with a flanger or chorus with lots of fuzz or distortion. I can usually get a better (more usuable) sound from those combos than any synth pedal.

That being said, i do have the Boss SY-1 synth pedal and that has some fun options, the sequencer is really fun.

I also have the EHX Micro Synth pedal, I usually use that for an octave pedal and sometimes other sounds. Lots of options, but I don’t know if you can ever get the same sound twice with the sliders.
