Synth Porn

because why not.

Gamechanger Motor Synth. Want one but not for $2k. I was terrified to put it in motion.

The mandatory herd o’ Nords

A couple affordable current greats, a Monologue and Minilogue

@itsratso this is your Crave, but over twice as expensive

The reason I was shopping today (did not give in to GAS yet):

It has some friends

A pair of OG GOATs

These all look great. And this is my synth corner! Novation Mini Nova, Roland JX-08, Roland J6 Chord synth, Korg microKEY Air midi keyboard and Artinoise re.corder (digital wind instrument). I can use the Korg keyboard and re.corder to control the Mini Nova and JX-08 using a CME Widi bluetooth device. I also have a Moog Theremini in the other corner.

Very cool! I’m currently entirely in the box but I am seriously considering picking up a MiniFreak for a few reasons.

I had a MicroBrute and a couple Behringer clone analogs a couple years ago (and almost bought both a Monologue and a Minilogue back then too.) I’m originally a synth player from way back, used to have an ESQ-1.

Did you ever owned a Nord?

I have the MiniFreak V as a VST/plugin. Plus Arturia’s Analog Lab Pro, Pigments and Augmented Woodwinds. I like Arturia!

Nice!! I’m an Ensoniq fan too, I have the VFX and TS10. They are just awesome.

i dont have anything porn worthy. by design, in fact. i wanted to get either simple cheap stuff to learn with that i could easily unload and upgrade later, or a few interesting things that could integrate with a bunch of setups. oh yes lazy cat is optional

Dude that takes me back- I had an Ensoniq SQ-1 (is that the same as the ESQ-1?)… My first rig was a Korg Poly 61 and Casio CZ-101 (the sleazy 101:)… Now I have a Fantom 07- and a little 37 key Roland JD-Xi. (gassing for a Jupiter X or at least Xm.) So little time and money- so much gear….

I personally wouldn’t call this cheap stuff, those are all top of the line options imho. https://www.youtube.com/@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER uses the Beatstep pro for many of his crazy projects

Nope! They are great though. Jazz players love them.

Yeah me too, love their stuff - I have a bunch of their stuff and used to own V Collection. My current controller is a KeyLab 61 Mk.2.

Sweeeeet, we used to have a VFX too. Great combo with the ESQ-1. Those two are the reason I am probably getting a MiniFreak, actually; it’s a quirky digital/analog hybrid like the VFX and ESQ-1 were, great digital waveform oscillators into a killer analog filter, just like the old Ensoniqs.

Au contraire, the BeatStep Pro is a top tier piece of gear and you have to go to something like an Elektron for a meaningful step up (or maybe a Maschine if you’re deep into NI). Also that Crave is a fantastic synth, especially for bass. It’s just reasonably priced

And while they are cheap, the Volca like is brilliant for the money.

Right on, exactly, I agree completely. They are excellent midrange workhorse options.

Ahh the SQ-80? Yeah it was a slightly upgraded ESQ-1. Actually SQ-80V is probably Arturia’s best emulation in V Collection too, it sounds exactly the same.

CZ-101, awesome. The CZ’s were underrated

The Fantoms are super cool. Gotta be one of the best onboard programming interfaces on any synth.

BTW, in case anyone wonders why I have a soft spot for digital wavetable oscillators into analog filters… well just listen from this timecode:

Industrial machine. So good. ESQ-1 and VFX can get here too, but the filter on this thing - just like the ‘Brutes - is so so good.

MS-20 style ESP too…

And yes, that would work with a bass.

Ha. I mean there’s nothing wrong with the Hydrasynth, there’s just also nothing super special about it except the Explorer is so cheap. It’s purely digital and frankly I would go for either a Korg Modwave or one of Modal’s first.

Man. I really just do not like Yamaha’s synths. Never have.

It’s been a long time since I have seen a Fairlight CMI. Cool.

Oh yeah, or any of the Nettwerk bands. Or the entire nation of Belgium ca. 1987.
