TalkingBass Sale

This is where I am with a few of his courses.
Maybe I am just not there yet.

I find Mark an effective teacher but I can understand this. Part of my problem is that for the course I chose (Chord Tones) I was already pretty well versed in the subject, so I didn’t continue long enough to learn much. Even so, I did learn valuable stuff, just not at the rate I was expecting from the glowing reviews here.

Even so, Mark’s in my top three bass youtubers, along with Josh and Adam Neely (who I wish would get back to roots and do more bass).

He seems to have canceled them, which is quite dreadful.

You know, Mark has a profile here on BB - you could always ask him directly, if you wanted to

I posted the question on the TalkingBass forum also…

He did (or was) (or is about to) move to the states.
Maybe he’s just getting reset?

He backed out of moving to Houston after he visited. Not sure why. He recently bought a house in the UK. Am I correct @markjsmith ?

Being someone who isn’t fond of Texas (as a place to live) I can take a few stabs as to why.

I lived in Dallas forr 22 years and really love the city. Don’t much care for Houston though.

I don’t like Houston at all. Don’t really care for Dallas or San Antonio, either. The only great place to live in Texas has always been Austin, a thriving art/restaurant/tech scene that is on par with the best in the country.

Mark was actually going to move to The Woodlands, which is a really nice area north of Houston.

He said during a live hang that the expense and complexities of moving his family and business to the US was ultimately too much.

Johnny Depp actually lived in Austin prior to his acting stardom. He fancied himself a rock guitarist.

Austin has produced some of the very best music icons in the world. Depp was most definitely not one of them.

As a musician, he’s a damn good actor.

Yeah The Woodlands is nice, and I remember Mark looking at houses there. It’s still too close to Houston for my taste.
I must have missed the live hang where he explained why he decided to stay in the UK.
@MikeC do you know why he no longer has the live hangs?

I think he’s been very busy with TalkingBass, producing lots of live lessons and running the business. He also developed the Groove Trainer course in the last few months.

The entire concept of Houston baffles me. Like, who the hell builds a city in a swamp by choice? At least the Romans drained them first. Same goes for Galveston, by extension. I guess we could extend that to a lot of Florida though too.

But Houston traffic, weather, etc - I’m a city guy but definitely not that city. They do have a world class underground music nightclub I would like to visit though.

Agree with @MikeC about Austin. San Antonio isn’t too bad as a visitor but it’s a big tourist trap in a lot of ways. The Alamo is basically the Texas version of SF’s Fisherman’s Wharf, except with significantly worse restaurants.
